PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) has boosted its green mobility push with 112 electric vehicle (EV) charging points now live across its highways, including the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2). The milestone, achieved ahead of schedule, surpasses its original target of 100 chargers by the end of 2025.

The chargers are located at rest and service areas (R&Rs), lay-bys and selected petrol stations giving EV users wider access along Malaysia’s busiest routes. The rollout also supports the government’s Low Carbon Mobility Development Plan (2021–2030), which targets 1,000 DC fast charging points nationwide by 2025.

Managing Director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar said the initiative, part of the PLUS Green Roadmap 2.0, was designed with sustainability in mind. Many sites feature solar-panel roofing and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to further cut emissions.

Looking ahead, PLUS plans to open Malaysia’s first dedicated highway EV hub at the Seremban R&R (Southbound) by early 2027. Developed through Terra ChargEV, a joint venture with Green EV Charge, the hub is expected to serve as a model for large-scale highway charging infrastructure.

PLUS also aims to grow its network to 350 chargers by 2028.

This year, a “Charge and Chill” concept will be introduced at selected toll plazas, pairing charging bays with food and beverage outlets to make stopovers more convenient for EV users.

Chief Commercial Officer Mohd Fauzi Puniran said all chargers on the network are DC fast chargers with CCS2 connectors, delivering outputs between 47 kW and 200 kW. Depending on the vehicle, an 80% charge can be achieved in just 15 to 30 minutes.

Demand for highway charging has been climbing in step with Malaysia’s rising EV adoption. Users can easily find and pay for sessions via apps such as JomCharge, Gentari Go and ChargEV, which also allows real-time availability tracking.

With its network already ahead of schedule and bigger projects on the horizon, PLUS is positioning itself as a key driver of Malaysia’s electrification and low-carbon mobility goals.
