Stellantis Malaysia recently confirmed the return of Jeep and Alfa Romeo, albeit not directly through the firm.

At last, we now have official word to the Jeep and Alfa Romeo brands’ re-entry into Malaysia from parent firm Stellantis. As reported previously, both marques will not be managed directly by the Malaysian arm of their shared principals – Stellantis Malaysia.

These updates come courtesy of our industry colleagues PaulTan.org via a recent interview with Stellantis ASEAN MD Isaac Yeo. Through which, the exec acknowledged and confirmed that both Jeep and Alfa Romeo are returning somewhat officially.

Both Jeep and Alfa Romeo will be handled by separate entities through a 'hybrid model system' operating 'boutique style' business.

In fact, Yeo detailed both brands will be handled by separate entities via what he describes as a ‘hybrid model system’ that operates a ‘boutique style’ business. This, Yeo argues, best suites the low volume that both brands are predicted to generate.

“We are bringing in Jeep and Alfa under a hybrid model system. I believe these two brands, in the next two years, has its customer base, but I want to keep this next two years to a boutique style business. I’m not going after the mass market,” Yeo reportedly said.

Presently, Stellantis already has one brand managed and operated separately from its Malaysia NSC, that being Maserati through Naza Italia (Naza Auto).

In other words, Stellantis Malaysia confirmed the return of Jeep and Alfa Romeo locally, but they will be managed by external third parties. Presently, Stellantis already has one brand operating in such a way, that being Maserati through Naza Italia (Naza Auto).

Notably, this might only be for the short term as Stellantis Malaysia could assume full control of both brands at a later stage. “For us now, Leapmotor is the focus, and boutique style for Jeep and Alfa Romeo. That will keep me relevant,” added Yeo.

Stellantis ASEAN MD Isaac Yeo reaffirmed plans by Stellantis Malaysia to focus on growing the Leapmotor brand, as well as a scaling back on expanding the Peugeot marque.

The move largely stems from the fact that Stellantis Malaysia realigned its operations to focus on growing the Leapmotor brand for local mass market penetration. The effort also sees the firm scaling back from expanding the Peugeot marque locally.

In the same interview, Yeo carefully avoided naming who are the external parties charged with managing both brands. However, we already have a strong lead towards who will handle one of them at least.

Jeep is rumoured to re-enter Malaysia through Goh Brothers. Besides familiar model nameplates like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, we could see the new Wagoneer global EV offering enter too.

As reported prior, rumours suggest that Jeep could soon be re-launched locally under Goh Brothers. Said local firm already has a portfolio of multi-brand car dealerships, and it also stands as a powerhouse distributor of various premium motorcycle marques too.

Jeep aside, what remains unclear still is who will take up the Alfa Romeo brand. Whilst Goh Brothers are again linked to which, Carz.com.my understands through credible industry sources that this may not be the case.

It remains unclear still who will be tasked with the Alfa Romeo brand in Malaysia, but an official  announcement is expected soon enough.

Nevertheless, with parent Stellantis Malaysia confirming the return of both marques soon, we may not have long to wait for official announcements for both. We’ll have more once these are made.

In the meantime, do you folks reckon the Jeep brand stands a chance to thrive again locally today? What sort of odds would you also give the returning  Italian premium sports vehicles marque Alfa Romeo too? As always, hit the comments below…
