- Govt Finalising RON95 Subsidy Eligibility – MOF
The government is in the final stage of concluding eligibility criteria and implementation methods for RON95 fuel subsidies.
The Malaysian government is now in the final stage of concluding eligibility criteria and implementation methods for RON95 fuel subsidies with stakeholders, said Second Finance Minister (MOF) Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
As reported by NST, the minister said that the subsidy targeting mechanism will be meticulously designed to ensure that the majority of eligible citizens won’t get affected. That said, the full implementation and criteria will be announced by the end of this month.
"The government is also working with petrol station operators to ensure the MyKad payment system can be used at pumps once the RON95 subsidy is rolled out at the end of this month," he told the Senate during question time earlier today.
The minister was responding to a supplementary question from Senator Rose Suryati Alang on the latest approach to fuel subsidies and the smoothness of implementation.
Amir Hamzah, who is also serving as the Economy Minister, added that the government would utilise the data from the Central Database Hub (Padu) system to determine eligibility, ensuring that only those truly qualified would benefit.
"We will announce and implement this at the end of the month with assurance that eligible citizens will receive the subsidies as intended," he continued.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) announced that the government is developing a digital monitoring system to prevent leakages of subsidised goods including the RON95 petrol, where Malaysians will need to verify their MyKad before being allowed to buy subsidised fuel.
