- Proton Sets Aug 2025 Sales Record, 100,902 Units Sold YTD
National automaker Proton has recorded its best month in three years with 15,228 units sold in August 2025, combining domestic and export markets. The strong performance pushed year-to-date (YTD) sales to 100,902 units.
With an estimated Total Industry Volume (TIV) of 73,890 units for the month, Proton maintained second place in national rankings and lifted its market share to 20.6%, up from 19.3% in July. Year-to-date market share now stands at 19.5%.
The newly launched X50 was the standout performer. After 999 deliveries in its first week on sale in July, Aug sales more than doubled to 4,287 units, making it both the best-selling B-segment SUV and the most popular SUV in Malaysia. In just over a month, more than 5,000 units are already in customer hands.
The Saga, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in July, continued as Proton’s overall best-seller. It posted 6,331 units in Aug, its second highest month this year lifting its year-to-date total to 44,676 units. The S70 retained its spot as the top C-segment sedan with 1,210 units sold in Aug, while the X90 led the D-segment SUV class with 220 units.
The X70 added 627 units, keeping it nearly 40% ahead of its 2024 pace. The Persona and Iriz contributed 1,379 and 305 units respectively, reflecting steady demand across Proton’s line-up.
EV sales also gained ground. The e.MAS 7 remained Malaysia’s best-selling EV with 852 units in Aug, a 20.7% increase from July, bringing year-to-date sales to 5,811. With the e.MAS 5 set to debut as the country’s first affordable EV and a new EV plant in Tanjong Malim now operational, Proton expects stronger adoption in the months ahead.
Exports rose sharply too, with Aug’s 586 units marking the brand’s best month so far, boosting year-to-date exports to 3,144 units, 49% higher than 2024. The X50 led overseas shipments, followed by the Saga and e.MAS 7, which will officially launch in Singapore on Sept 17.
