The all-new Hyundai Ioniq Concept Three previews the marque’s future electric hatch, possibly known as the Ioniq 3.

The ongoing IAA Mobility 2025 motor show in Munich not only set the stage for European automakers to flaunt their latest creations, but also some international brands too. One of which is Hyundai, with its new and radical concept EV hatch, the Hyundai Ioniq Concept Three.

Billed as an 'Aero Hatch', the Concept Three looks like a combination of the Ioniq 6 and Hyundai’s combustion-powered hatchbacks like the Veloster and i30, thanks to its futuristic front end and the sporty roofline. In fact, the concept’s 4,288 mm overall length also puts it on par with both aforementioned Hyundai ICE hatchbacks, as well as other popular compact hatches like the Volkswagen Golf.

Some key design elements primed here include slim LED headlights with Parametric Pixel lights, flared-out wheel arches, thick C-pillars with a raising beltline, aggressive rear bumper accents with a built-in diffuser, a semi-transparent ducktail spoiler, gullwing-style doors, and many more.

While we can’t expect its production version to look this radical, Hyundai Design Centre boss Simon Loasby did confirm with Autocar UK that some sporty bits will eventually make their way to a sportier N performance variant of the hatch.

What’s more interesting is that Hyundai has ditched the large-screen norms for the Concept Three, and instead taken a much more minimalistic approach for its cabin. Instead of massive screens, drivers can now customise their own display layout with widgets and small devices.

Continuing the radical theme for this concept are the pod-like bucket seats wrapped in sustainable fabrics, plus a unique two-spoke steering wheel with tons of physical buttons and the same Parametric Pixel lights seen on the outside.

Unfortunately, Hyundai hasn’t revealed any details regarding the underpinning for the Concept Three, but logic suggests that the production version would likely use the same E-GMP platform as other Ioniq models. Specifically, Autocar UK suggested that the production version might share its underpinnings with sister brand Kia’s EV3, given the similar size and positioning of both models.

For reference, the Kia EV3 underpins the 400-volt version of the E-GMP platform, featuring a single FWD motor setup rated at up to 201 hp (150 kW) with two battery options—58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh. The latter unit is capable of delivering up to 600 km of WLTP range for the EV3 while supporting 150 kW DC charging.

And as its name suggests, the production version of this radical concept will likely carry the Ioniq 3 nameplate, thus following in the footsteps of other previous Ioniq models. Its production is slated to begin in Europe sometime in 2026, before hitting the Old Continent’s market afterwards.
