- TGR Will Reproduce AE86 Engine Parts Under Heritage Project
Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) will reproduce and reissue key engine parts for the Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno (AE86) under its GR Heritage Parts Project. The initiative revives discontinued service parts as new genuine items, allowing enthusiasts to keep their classic models on the road.
The latest additions are the cylinder head sub-assembly and cylinder block sub-assembly for the 4A-GE engine. Both will debut at the “Initial D 30th Anniversary” event at Fuji Speedway on Sept 13 and 14, where preorders will also open.
Launched in the 1980s, the AE86 remains one of Toyota’s most celebrated nameplates, remembered for its driving character and enduring cultural presence. TGR’s decision to reissue engine components responds directly to demand from owners looking to maintain their cars in top condition.
While the new parts follow the original designs, they have been updated with modern materials, manufacturing techniques, and simulations. The cylinder head gains machining refinements to reduce compression variances, coated intake ports, and revised cam cap knock pins.
Additionally, the cylinder block will also benefit from improved honing, stronger cast iron, and modifications to the crank-cap structure.
In response to customer feedback, the cylinder head will now feature thicker intake and exhaust port walls, while the block has been adapted with bosses and ribs for transverse mounting applications. This allows use not only in the AE86 but also in certain other front-wheel-drive models such as the Corolla AE82 and AE92.
An AE86 restored with these components, along with other GR Heritage Parts, will be on display at the Initial D 30th Anniversary event. Further ordering details and prices will be made available soon through the GR Heritage Parts website, with sales scheduled to begin around May 2026.
