Untitled-design---2025-10-24T114021.753.png Fatal road accidents saw a noticeable drop during Op Lancar Deepavali 2025, even though the total number of crashes went up slightly.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Yusri Hassan Basri said 8,940 accidents were recorded nationwide between Oct 17 and 21, up 5.2% from 8,408 cases during the same period last year.

But despite the increase, fatal crashes fell by 9.8%, while the number of deaths dropped 12% from 96 last year to 85 this year.

“The highest number of deaths with 61 people or 72% this year involved motorcyclists and pillion riders, a decrease of 20% from 76 deaths last year,” he said in a statement.

Yusri noted that 43,379 summonses were issued this year, compared to 52,090 in 2024, marking a reduction of 8,711 summonses.

“Based on the decrease in the number of deaths and summonses issued, road users’ awareness of traffic regulations and road laws is increasing,” he added.

During the five-day operation, traffic was especially heavy across major highways, with 9.9 million vehicles recorded.

This included traffic along the North-South Expressway, East Coast Expressway 2, Karak Expressway with 1.2 million vehicles, and the West Coast Expressway with 618,173 vehicles.
