Repair work to restore the signalling system on the MRT Putrajaya Line remains underway following a major disruption caused by cable theft earlier this week.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said in a statement today that technical investigations have revealed a larger number of fibre optic cables were cut and stolen than initially believed, requiring extensive repairs before normal operations can resume.

As a result, Bernama reports that trains between Kwasa Damansara and Putrajaya Sentral are still being driven manually for safety reasons, leading to slower speeds, longer station stops, and train frequencies of around every 20 to 30 minutes.

A free shuttle bus service is operating between Kwasa Damansara and Putrajaya Sentral stations every 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Rapid Rail has urged passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and to check the Rapid KL social media channels or PULSE app for the latest updates.

Meanwhile, police confirmed yesterday that they are investigating the theft incident believed to have triggered the disruption. Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the case was reported yesterday afternoon by auxiliary police stationed at the MRT Putrajaya Line’s Sungai Besi Station.

According to the report, the MRT portal fence near Taman Desa was found breached around 6.30am, with piles of cables discovered near the Pier 0373 pillar close to the MRT Kuchai Station. The cables have since been taken to the Serdang Depot for verification and measurement to determine the total amount stolen.

Rapid Rail expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured that every effort is being made to restore the line’s signalling system and return services to full normality as soon as possible.
