- Nationwide Checks Find No Shortchanging of RON95
After weeks of viral claims accusing petrol stations of short-changing customers on RON95, a nationwide inspection has confirmed that every station checked is dispensing the correct amount of fuel.
According to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, enforcement teams were sent out across every state and district from Nov 3 to 9 to verify pump accuracy following waves of consumer complaints online.

“The purpose of this inspection was to ensure that all petrol dispensers have undergone verification and that the certification remains valid,” the ministry said, adding that officers also checked whether pumps stayed within the allowed error margin and showed no signs of tampering.
The operation covered 2,282 RON95 pumps at 584 stations, ranging from major brands to rural mini stations.
Throughout the entire inspection, the ministry said no cases of RON95 being dispensed below the permissible limit were found.

“We also aim to detect any element of manipulation or technical non-compliance by petrol station operators,” it stated, stressing that the checks will continue on a routine basis to maintain measurement accuracy.
The ministry also warned that any station found manipulating measurements can face penalties under Section 16 of the Weights and Measures Act 1972, which includes fines up to RM40,000, three years’ jail, or both. Any altered equipment may also be seized.
