Perodua has published a short video teaser featuring the upcoming Traz/Nexis D66B SUV. Launch imminent?

After launching its first-ever EV model—the Perodua QV-E—earlier this month, Perodua has now teased its next model via a short video published on its official social media channels. From said video, we are certain that the teased model could be P2’s long-awaited B-segment SUV crossover, the Perodua Nexis.

Codenamed D66B, the Nexis—also known as the Perodua Traz from rumours circulating online—is essentially Perodua’s version of the DNGA-based Toyota Yaris Cross, which was developed specifically for the Southeast Asian market, and not to be confused with its nameplate twin in Japan and Europe.

From the shadow-draped image, there’s not much we can extract from it, except that the D66B Nexis/Traz will feature the same sporty SUV crossover bodystyle as its Toyota twin, while at the same time featuring what appears to be the Cranberry Red exterior colour that is offered on many other Perodua models.

Another image unveiled in said teaser video showcases the front grille part of the car, where it gets a slightly different grille insert design compared to the Yaris Cross, featuring segmented horizontal slats finished in gloss black. Naturally, the D66B wears a chromed Perodua badge instead of a Toyota one.

Beneath its bonnet, we simply don’t know what powertrain will be offered for the Nexis/Traz, but we know that the DNGA Yaris Cross is offered in both full combustion (ICE) and parallel hybrid (HEV) options. The former comes in the form of a 1.2-litre 4-cyl 2NR-VE naturally-aspirated petrol engine rated at 106 PS and 138 Nm, which is then mated to either a five-speed manual or a CVT gearbox that sends power to the front wheels (FWD).

Meanwhile, the hybrid version gets a larger 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp 2NR-VEX petrol engine rated at 91 PS and 121 Nm, which is then augmented with an e-motor producing 80 PS and 141 Nm. Power is also sent to the front wheels, this time via an e-CVT automatic gearbox.

Talks of Perodua launching the Nexis D66B/Traz started way back in 2024, although the original plan was eventually delayed and pushed back to give way for the development of the QV-E EV. Mind you, this short teaser video is also the first official release made by Perodua to outright feature the mysterious D66B, so perhaps it won’t be long before we get to see this B-segment SUV crossover in the flesh.
