- Geely Xingyuan Crowns as China’s Best-Selling NEV in 2025

Proton e.MAS 5’s donor model, the Geely Xingyuan, has been crowned as China’s best-selling NEV in 2025.
Following its success in the first half of 2025, the ever-popular Geely Xingyuan has now been crowned as China’s best-selling passenger new energy vehicle (NEV) for the entire 2025 year.
This compact EV hatch, which also serves as the donor model for Malaysia’s most affordable EV, the Proton e.MAS 5, has piped down close rivals such as the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV in second place and the Tesla Model Y in third for the coveted title, with a total of 465,775 units sold in 2025 alone.

As reported by CarNewsChina, who quoted the retail vehicle sales data in China for 2025, the second-place Wuling Hongguang Mini EV charts a total sales volume of 435,599 units, while the Tesla Model Y trails closely at third with 425,337 units.

The next three places are dominated by NEV giant BYD, with the Qin Plus, Seagull, and Qin L taking the fourth, fifth, and sixth places at 387,315, 310,956, and 264,671 units, respectively. Two more BYD models took the top-ten places, namely the Seal 06 at eighth place with 220,317 units and the Song Plus at tenth with 200,276 units.

Rounding off the top-ten places are the Xiaomi SU7 at seventh place with 258,164 units and the Tesla Model 3 at ninth place with 200,361 units. All models listed on the top-ten list have sales numbers exceeding 200,000 units.

Besides the Xiaomi SU7, among the models from Chinese NEV startups that made it into the top 20 are Xpeng and Li Auto, with the affordable Xpeng Mona M03 at thirteenth place with 175,345 units sold in 2025, and the Li Auto L6 at fourteenth place with 166,516 units. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi YU7 SUV ranks lower than its sedan twin at 18th place with 153,673 units.
Besides the top-ranked Geely Xingyuan, another Geely model that made it into the top-20 list is the Geely Galaxy Panda, with the kei car-style EV taking the sixteenth place with 162,098 units.


Back to the Xingyuan, this top-selling EV hatch retails from CNY 69,800 (RM40,639) onwards locally, making it one of the most affordable NEVs on sale in China. Two powertrain specs are available for the Chinese market, with the top-spec model featuring a more powerful RWD motor setup rated at 114 hp (85 kW) and 150 Nm, while its 40.16 kWh battery pack is good for up to 410 km of CLTC range.
In contrast, its Proton-badged twin, the Proton e.MAS 5, is priced at RM59,800 (RM56,800 with rebates) for the base Prime variant, while the top-spec Premium is priced higher at RM72,800 (RM69,800 with rebates).
