Puspakom Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) held a joint programme on Jan 12 to strengthen collaboration on road and vehicle safety.

The engagement focused on data-driven safety assessments, governance of vehicle inspection services and potential research-led initiatives.

The session was attended by Puspakom CEO Mahmood Razak Bahman, MIROS chairman Professor Dr Wong Shaw Voon, MIROS director-general Associate Professor Ir Ts Dr Siti Zaharah Ishak, and senior management from both organisations.

Discussions centred on sharing technical expertise and research insights to support continuous improvements in Malaysia’s vehicle inspection ecosystem.

Siti Zaharah said effective road safety outcomes depend on close cooperation between service operators and research institutions. She added that MIROS would contribute technical input, data analysis and risk assessments to strengthen inspection standards and public confidence.

She noted that technical audits of vehicle inspection services fall within MIROS’ mandate under the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research Act 2012.

Both parties also discussed potential collaboration in research and development, public awareness studies and joint safety programmes, subject to regulatory approval.

Puspakom operates under key performance indicators set by the Ministry of Transport, last updated in 2024, to ensure service quality, efficiency and wider access to inspection services.

Technical audits are conducted independently and cover inspection methods, equipment calibration, ISO certification, service turnaround times, customer satisfaction and safety standards.

Mahmood said stronger governance and independent oversight are essential as the mobility landscape evolves, adding that collaboration with MIROS supports Puspakom’s focus on accountability and service excellence.
