The All-New Nissan Serena e-POWER has officially landed in Malaysia with five different variants. While they all share the same groundbreaking 1.4L-fueled, 100% electric motor drive system (315Nm of torque!), the interior luxuries and safety tech vary wildly.

If you’re looking to capitalize on the RM5,000 Early Bird Rebate, here is the breakdown of which version belongs in your driveway.

The Price List (OTR without Insurance)

  • e-POWER X: RM154,800
  • e-POWER X-PLUS: RM159,800
  • e-POWER HIGHWAY STAR: RM169,800
  • e-POWER PREMIUM HIGHWAY STAR: RM174,800
  • e-POWER SHIRO PREMIUM HIGHWAY STAR: RM179,800

The Big Tech Shift: From Mild-Hybrid to 100% Electric Drive

The most significant change for the 2026 model isn't just the styling; it’s a total reimagining of how the car moves.

The Old Way (C27 Serena S-Hybrid)

  • The Engine: A 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol engine (150 PS / 200 Nm) that directly drove the front wheels through a CVT.
  • The Hybrid Part: It used a tiny "starter-alternator" motor (2.6 PS / 48 Nm) for minor energy recovery and assistance.
  • The Feel: It drove like a traditional petrol car with a slight electric nudge.

The New Way (C28 Serena e-POWER)

  • The "Generator": A new 1.4L 3-cylinder engine (98 PS / 123 Nm) that never drives the wheels. Its only job is to charge a 1.77 kWh battery.
  • The "Driver": A powerful electric motor delivering 163 PS and 315 Nm of instant torque directly to the front wheels.
  • The Feel: Because the wheels are 100% motor-driven, it provides the smooth, silent, and punchy acceleration of an EV without ever needing a charging plug.

The C28 introduces three distinct Drive Modes which are Eco, Standard, and Sport, that adjust how much the car "slows down" to recover energy. For the ultimate EV experience, you can engage the e-Pedal mode, allowing for "one-pedal driving" where the car brakes significantly the moment you lift off the accelerator.

Variant Breakdown: Which is the Best for You

1. e-POWER X (RM154,800)

Best For: Price-conscious buyers and fleet owners who want the fuel-efficient e-POWER technology at the most accessible entry point.

The Highlights: This serves as the standard baseline, featuring the 163 PS/315 Nm electric motor, e-Pedal one-pedal driving, 7-inch digital display, and 9-inch infotainment.

Note: Even at this price, you get the full 1,000km range potential and 100% electric motor drive.

2. e-POWER X-PLUS (RM159,800)

Best For: Families with kids who need on-the-go entertainment and easy-clean surfaces.

Scenario: A weekend trip to Genting where the kids stay quiet watching the 14-inch roof monitor while sitting on spill-resistant leatherette seats.

The Upgrade: Adds Leatherette seats and a 14-inch roof-mounted monitor over the base X.

The Highlights: All X features plus enhanced cabin durability and rear entertainment.

3. e-POWER HIGHWAY STAR (RM169,800)

Best For: The "Sweet Spot" buyer—this is the most complete version for modern Malaysian families.

Scenario: Using ProPILOT's Intelligent Cruise Control to maintain a safe distance during a rainy North-South Highway drive.

The Upgrade: Jumps to Dual 12.3-inch screens, dual power sliding doors, and unlocks the ProPILOT safety suite and 360° camera.

The Highlights: Wireless Apple CarPlay, 6 USB ports, and Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.

4. e-POWER PREMIUM HIGHWAY STAR (RM174,800)

Best For: Buyers who want a genuine "business class" feel for their passengers.

Scenario: Picking up VIP guests from the airport where the Black Quilted Nappa Leather and Power Tailgate create a luxury first impression.

The Upgrade: Swaps the interior for Premium Black Quilted Nappa Leather and adds a Power Tailgate.

The Highlights: Maximum comfort meets high-end aesthetics and loading convenience.

5. e-POWER SHIRO PREMIUM HIGHWAY STAR (RM179,800)

Best For: The flagship buyer who wants the most exclusive, high-tech Serena available.

Scenario: Showing off the motorized 14-inch monitor and white Nappa leather to friends during a night out in Bukit Bintang.

The Upgrade: Adds White Quilted Nappa Leather, a Motorized rear monitor, and LED kicking plates.

The Highlights: The ultimate flagship status with fully automated rear entertainment and a unique "Shiro" (White) luxury theme.

The Verdict: Which Variant Should You Book?

Based on the official specifications and pricing, here is how you should decide which variant of the All-New Nissan Serena e-POWER belongs in your driveway:

  • If you are on a strict budget: Focus on the X-PLUS (RM159,800). While it lacks the advanced cameras of the higher trims, it provides the essential "family MPV" upgrades—specifically the 14-inch roof-mounted monitor and easier-to-clean leatherette seats—for just RM5,000 more than the base model.
  • If you want the best value: The HIGHWAY STAR (RM169,800) is the undisputed king of the lineup. This is the "Sweet Spot" where you finally unlock the ProPILOT driver assistance suite, the 360° Around View Monitor, and the massive dual 12.3-inch screens that truly define the new Serena experience.
  • If you want the "Limousine" experience: Step up to the PREMIUM HIGHWAY STAR (RM174,800). The addition of Black Quilted Nappa Leather and a Power Tailgate elevates the cabin to a business-class level of comfort and convenience.

Early Bird Tip: Don’t Leave Money on the Table!

To celebrate the launch, Nissan is offering an Introductory Rebate of RM5,000 and a Complimentary Accessories package valued at RM8,000 for Early Bird customers.

Pro-Tip: If you apply that RM5,000 rebate to the Highway Star, its effective price drops to RM164,800—bringing the high-tech ProPILOT variant remarkably close to the price of a standard X-PLUS.

Which variant are you eyeing? Does the Luxurious White Nappa leather in the Shiro justify the RM179,800 price tag, or is the Highway Star all the MPV you'll ever need? Let’s debate in the comments!
