Malaysian diesel vehicle owners navigating technical hurdles under the BUDI MADANI diesel subsidy scheme can expect official relief much sooner than expected.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali confirmed that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF) will unveil targeted updates in less than a month, accelerating the timeline previously outlined by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
Speeding Up Policy Execution
Following broad engagement sessions with state leadership, including crucial input from Sabah and Sarawak, all primary recommendations have been submitted to MOF. Rather than waiting up to two months, KPDN anticipates rollouts in weeks to protect consumer welfare.
3 Major Upgrades Fixing Real-World Roadblocks

The upcoming framework targets three specific operational fixes:
- Family Quota Transfers: Answering the core household question, the government is reviewing mechanisms to allow primary account holders to officially transfer or share subsidised diesel quotas with immediate family members.
- 'Sambung Bayar' Vehicle Relief: Relaxed eligibility criteria are being planned for drivers operating vehicles under ongoing hire-purchase arrangements (sambung bayar), helping them bypass previous registration hurdles.
- Simplified Application Channels: Streamlined registration procedures are being finalized to eliminate bureaucratic friction, supported by physical walk-in help counters at LHDN branches, UTCs, and petrol stations.
