BYD Seal 6 EV

Long and highly anticipated, BYD’s latest 2025 release, the new BYD Seal 6 EV, officially launched in Malaysia.

A C-segment (fastback e-sedan) Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), it underpins BYD’s Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture and Blade Battery Technology.

Fully imported (CBU – China), available via Sime Motors (BYD Cars Malaysia) are two variants (Dynamic – RM100,700, Premium – RM116,500).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover vehicle (six years/150,000 KM), Blade battery (eight years/160,000 KM) and drive unit (eight years/160,000 KM) warranties.

Exterior (single-tone) colours (Dynamic, Premium: Arctic White, Harbour Grey, Misty Blue). Interior (dual-tone) colour (Dynamic, Premium: Black-Grey).

The new Seal 6 EV has a tiered dashboard (buttonless), linked to a low-rising-floating (armrest, storage, phone holder/wireless charger, interior setting/engine Start/Stop buttons, gear lever-omitted) centre console.

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees upholstery (leatherette) in one colour scheme (dual-tone – Black-Grey) with contrast stitching (Blue) and trim panels (Dark Silver, Gloss Black).

Equipped are the driver/central displays (instrument cluster: dash embedded – infotainment: floating), air-conditioning vents (rectangular) and an ambient light system (multi-colour – Premium).

Inclusively, the layout is ergonomic (functional), with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-oriented, user-friendly).

Installed is an 8.8-inch HD TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) fully digital driver display (instrument cluster).

Features are vehicle telematics, media, Bluetooth, navigation and customisable interface (drive mode dependent).

Comfortable, the interior sees upholstery (leatherette) in one colour scheme (dual-tone – Black-Grey) with contrast stitching (Blue).

The front gets manual-operated (Dynamic: passenger-multi-way-adjust) and electronic-powered (Dynamic: driver-multi-way-adjust – Premium: driver-passenger-multi-way-adjust, driver-passenger-ventilation-heating) bolstered seats. The rear gets a manual-operated (60:40 split-fold) bolstered bench. 

Included are headrests (front, rear), armrests (front: centre console – rear: centre seat fold-out) and a panoramic glass sunroof (electric: open/close/tilt/slide, dark tint, heat/UV protect, sunshade – Premium).

A five-seater (fastback e-sedan), the cabin offers ample space with comfortable seatings, providing adequate interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear).

Sufficient head, shoulder and leg rooms.

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-top-bottom steering wheel. Leatherette (Black) with contrast stitching (Blue) and trims (Dark Silver, Gloss Black).

Features are multi-function (Bluetooth, Media, Voice Recognition, Vehicle settings), column adjustments (manual: tilt, telescopic) and column gear selector (right stalk shifter).

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system.

Practical storage areas. E.g., pockets (side doors, seat backs), centre console spaces (partitioned, caverned, retractable, under-stowage), a glove box, a front trunk (frunk: 65 litres) and a hidden boot space (under-boot floor).

Provided are four cup holders (two – front, rear) and four bottle holders (one – side doors).

Multiple power outlets. E.g., four USB ports (two – front, two – rear), one 12 V socket (front) and one wireless charger (front – Premium).

Included is a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L – 3.7 kW) charging function, for powering of external appliances.

Accessing its electronic-powered (open: remote/key fob, in-cabin/tailgate button) tailgate, opens to 460 litres (rear seats up) of load capacity.

Included is a front trunk (frunk: 65 litres).

Weighing in at 1,780 kg (Dynamic) and 1,800 kg (Premium), the new Seal 6 EV measures at 4,720 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height and with a wheelbase spanning 2,820 mm.

Dynamically sporty, its exterior exudes BYD’s ‘Dragon Face 3.0’ design concept, emphasised by seamlessly rounded and cleanly shaped surfaces.

The front-end sees a formed bonnet (side raised), rounded quarter panels (flared fenders), a full width bar trim (BYD script) and an X-shaped bumper (grille-omitted, full width-lower vented, corner cutouts).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: bumper lip, side sills) and body trims (Black: vent, side mirror arms, B-pillars, lower side doors – Chrome: window surrounds, bar trim, BYD script) and flush door handles (body-colour: electric).

Smoothly athletic, it continues the design language, emphasised by seamlessly jointed and horizontally rounded contours.

The rear-end sees a fastback roofline (tailgate sloping), rounded quarter panels (flared fenders), a tapered tailgate (BYD/Seal 6 scripts) and a sculpted bumper (corner cutouts, diffuser: exhaust-omitted).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: diffuser, side sills) and body trims (Black: C-pillars, lower side doors – Chrome: window surrounds, BYD/Seal 6 scripts) and flush door handles (body-colour: electric).

Sleek, the headlamps are framed roundly angular and inward tilted with pointed edges. Installed are full LED (projectors) units.

Features are Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), automatic On/Off/high-/low-beam/cornering, Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC), welcome/leaving lights, sequential turn signals (LED) and full width light strip (Premium).

Seamless, the tail lamps are framed full-width (lightbar) and slim with roundly pointed wraparound edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Included is a high-mounted stop light (LED: windscreen integrated).

The side mirrors (dual-tone – Black-body-colour) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust) with sequential turn signals, blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection – BSD) and heating.

Installed are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes.

Aiding the setup are Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold and brake energy recuperation (regenerative braking – two modes: NORMAL, HIGH) systems.

Mounted is a set of 17-inch (Dynamic) and 18-inch (Premium) multi-spoke (single-tone – Dark Grey) alloy rims.

The sets are rubbered up in 225/55 R17 (front, rear – Dynamic) and 225/50 R18 (front, rear – Premium) Westlake SU318a H/T (Dynamic, Premium) tyres.

The new Seal 6 EV gets the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Grouped are Full Speed Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop/Go (FSACC-SG), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC).

Other systems include Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill-Start Assist (HSA), Brake Override System (BOS), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold, Around View Monitor (AVM – 360-degree) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Passive safety includes six airbags (driver-passenger, front sides, front-far sides, front-rear curtains), seatbelts (anchors, reminders, pre-tensioners), ISOFIX (two: outer rear seats), parking sensors (two: front, four: rear), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), rear-view mirrors (exterior: BSD, heating – interior: automatic-dimming), automatic-door locks (speed-sensing, central-locking, walk-away-lock), automatic wipers (rain-sensing, intermittent), automatic headlamps (On/Off/cornering/low-/high-beam), automatic windows (anti-pinch, one-touch up/down), emergency brake signal and anti-theft system (alarm, engine immobiliser).

Three (Dynamic, Premium) drive modes enabled (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT). 

Installed is a floating 12.8-inch HD touchscreen central display (infotainment, control unit).

Features are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, 5G/WiFi/WiFi hotspot, media, live navigation, voice assistant, mobile app remote control (BYD App), app store, vehicle telematics and Over-The-Air (OTA) updates.

Entertainment is channelled via variant-specific audio systems (Dynamic: six speakers – Premium: eight speakers).

The new Seal 6 EV (Dynamic, Premium) underpins an all-electric e-powertrain (BEV) with variant-specific outputs.

Nestled (rear-mounted: Dynamic, Premium) is a single-electric motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM) setup (Dynamic: 95 kW/129 PS, 220 Nm – Premium: 160 kW/218 PS, 330 Nm).

Merged to the setup is a single-speed automatic transmission (column gear selector: right stalk shifter).

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels (Dynamic, Premium), via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system.

0 to 100 km/h acceleration is done in 10.9 secs (Dynamic) and 7.5 secs (Premium). Top speed is electronically capped at 160 km/h (Dynamic) and 180 km/h (Premium).

Powering (Dynamic, Premium) the e-motor is BYD’s Blade Battery Technology (Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture), featuring a Blade Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery (56.64 KWH), enabling a total driving range (NEDC) of 485 km (Dynamic, Premium).

AC charging (Type 2: 7 kW) takes 13 hours for a 0% to 100% State of Charge (SoC). DC charging (CCS2: 100 kW) takes 23 mins for a 30% to 80% SoC.

Included is a brake energy recuperation (regenerative braking – two modes: NORMAL, HIGH) system and a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L – 3.7 kW) function for powering of external appliances.

Underpinned is BYD’s Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture (Cell-To-Body – CTB), providing the vehicle body with a ‘Sandwich Structure’ build (stability, handling, performance).

Propping-up the e-chassis is a suspension setup of double ball-joint MacPherson strut (front) and multi-link (rear).

Ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time. The e-sedan delivers a connected steering feel, with linear and balanced weighing at all speeds. 

Overall, it is spacious and comfortable, and the ride quality is satisfactory. Safe and suitable as a daily driver.

Good sound insulation, covering all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects. The cabin is serene, with the tyre, road and wind noises mostly hindered. 

The new BYD Seal 6 EV exudes an electrifyingly sporty and modern outlook with its roundly flowing and symmetrically seamless body contours.

Interior wise, its shell envelopes a tech savvy cockpit, featuring advanced connectivity, safety systems and creature comfort features.

Ultimately, the build quality is satisfactory, and with its distinctive outlook and energising powertrain, the new Seal 6 EV is surely an e-sedan to consider.
