BYD Atto 2

Long and highly anticipated, BYD’s latest 2025 release, the all-new BYD Atto 2, officially launched in Malaysia.

A Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the B-segment SUV (subcompact e-crossover) underpins BYD’s Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture and Blade Battery Technology.

Fully imported (CBU – China), available via Sime Motors (BYD Cars Malaysia) is one variant (Atto 2 Premium – MYR 100,700).

Price (OTR, w/o insurance) includes vehicle (six years/150,000 KM), Blade battery (eight years/160,000 KM) and drive unit (eight years/150,000 KM) warranties.

Three (single-tone) exterior colours (Ski White, Harbour Grey, Breeze Green). One interior colour (single-tone – Black).

The all-new Atto 2 gets a minimalistic and angularly cascading dashboard, linked to a low-rise-floating centre console (storage, wireless charger, interior setting/engine Start/Stop buttons, gear lever-omitted).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees one (single-tone – Black) colour scheme with contrast trims (Dark Silver).

Equipped are the screen displays (instrument cluster: dash embedded – infotainment: floating-rotating), air-conditioning vents (rectangular) and ambient lights (Blue).

Inclusively, the layout is airy and non-cluttered, with accessibilities ergonomically arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

Installed is an 8.8-Inch TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) fully digital dash embedded driver display (instrument cluster).

Features are vehicle telematics, media, Bluetooth and navigation.

Comfortable, the interior sees leatherette (eco-friendly – vegan) upholstery in one (Black) colour scheme with contrast stitching (Yellow).

The front gets electric-powered (driver-six-way-adjust, passenger-four-way-adjust, ventilation) bolstered seats. The rear gets a manual-operated (60:40 split-flat-fold) bolstered bench.

Included are armrests (front – centre console, rear – centre seat fold-out), headrests (front, rear) and a headliner (fabric – Black).

A subcompact e-crossover (five-seater), the cabin offers generous space, providing ample interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear).

Sufficient head, shoulder and leg rooms.

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-bottom steering wheel. Leatherette (Black) with contrast trims (Dark Silver).

Features are multi-function (media, voice assistant, Bluetooth, ACC – Adaptive Cruise Control, vehicle telematics), column adjustments (tilt, telescopic) and column gear lever (right stalk shifter).

Aiding the drive is an Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system.

Practical storage areas. E.g., door/seat back pockets, caverned/partitioned/under-stowage centre console spaces and a glove box.

Provided are four cup holders (two – front, rear) and four bottle holders (one – side doors).

Provided are four USB ports (two – front, rear), one 12 V socket (front) and a wireless charger (front).

Included is a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L – 3.3 KW) charging function for powering of external devices. 

Accessing its electric-powered (operation – one-touch open/close, remote/key fob, tailgate button) tailgate, opens to 400-Litres (rear seats up) and 1,320-Litres (rear seats down) of load capacities.

Weighing in at 1,570 KG, the all-new Atto 2 measures at 4,310 MM long, 1,830 MM wide, 1,675 MM tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,620 MM.

Athletically robust, its exterior exudes BYD’s Dragon Face 3.0 design language, emphasised by seamlessly rounded and cleanly shaped surfaces.

The short-overhang front-end sees a moulded bonnet, rounded quarter panels (flared fenders), a centre bar trim (BYD script) and a sculpted bumper (vented: lower-centre, vertical corners).

Accentuations, body clad (bumper, fenders, side sills) and body trims (Black: vent inserts, side mirror arms, window surrounds – Chrome: centre bar, BYD script – body-colour: vent strip/side sill/fender inserts).

Smoothly athletic, it continues the design language, emphasised by seamlessly jointed and horizontally rounded contours.

The short-overhang rear-end sees a mildly dipped roofline (roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna), rounded quarter panels (flared fenders), a roundly tapered tailgate (BYD script, Atto 2/EV emblems) and a covered bumper (diffuser: exhaust-omitted).

Accentuations, body clad (bumper, fenders, side sills) and body trims (Black: window surrounds – Chrome: diffuser, BYD script, Atto 2/EV emblems – body-colour: roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna, bumper strip/side sill/fender inserts).

Sharp and seamless, the headlamps are framed angular and inward tilted with pointed edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), follow-me-home/welcome/cornering lights and turn signals (LED).

Sleekly housed, the tail lamps are in a full-width (lightbar) design. Centre-slim with pointed wraparound edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, follow-me-home/welcome lights, turn signals (LED) and a ‘Mobius Ring’ light graphic.

The side mirrors (dual-toned – Black-body-colour) are electric-powered (auto-fold, adjust) with blind spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection – BSD), turn-signals and heating.

Installed are ventilated (front) and solid (rear) disc brakes.

Aiding the setup are Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold and brake energy recuperation (regenerative braking – two modes: NORMAL, HIGH) systems.

Sportily designed, fitted is a set of 17-Inch turbine-style (single-tone – Dark Grey) alloy rims, rubbered-up in 215/60 R17 (front, rear) Westlake SU318a tyres.

The all-new Atto 2 features the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Grouped are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Intelligent Speed Limit Information (ISLI), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Intelligent Speed Limit Control (ISLC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Assist (LDA) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).

Other systems include Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Brake Override System (BOS), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold, Surround View Camera (SVC – 360-degree) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Passive safety includes six airbags (driver-passenger, front-sides, front-rear curtains), seat belts (anchors, pretensioners, reminders), ISOFIX (two: outer-rear-seat), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), parking sensors (two: front – four: rear), side mirrors (BSD, heating), rear-view mirror (interior: automatic-dimming), impact beams, door ajar warning, automatic-door locks (speed-sensing, central-locking), automatic wipers (rain-sensing, intermittent), automatic headlamps (On/Off) and anti-theft system (security alarm, immobiliser).

Four drive modes enabled (ECO, NORMAL, SPORT, SNOW).

Installed is a 12.8-Inch HD touchscreen floating-rotating central display (infotainment).

Features are voice command (English), online navigation/music/weather, smartphone/Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless/wired), vehicle telematics and Over-The-Air (OTA) system updates.

Entertainment is channelled via a Dirac HD sound system (eight speakers).

The all-new Atto 2 underpins an all-electric (BEV) powertrain.

Embedded (front-mounted) is a single-electric-motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM) setup (130 KW/174 HP, 290 NM). 

Fused to the e-motor is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to the front wheels, via a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H takes 7.9 seconds and top speed is 160 KM/H.

Powering the e-motor is BYD’s Blade Battery Technology (Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture), featuring a Blade Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery (400 V, 51.13 KWH), providing a total driving range (NEDC/WLTP) of 410 KM/350 KM.

AC charging (Type 2 – 7 KW) takes 8 hours for a 0% to 100% State of Charge (SoC). DC charging (CCS2 – 82 KW) takes 28 minutes for a 30% to 80% SoC.

Included is a regenerative braking system and a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L – 3.3 KW) function for powering of external appliances.

Underpinned is BYD’s Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture (Cell-To-Body – CTB), providing the build with a ‘Sandwich Structure’ (stability, handling, performance).

Propping-up the chassis is a suspension setup of Macpherson strut (front) and torsion beam (rear).

Ride comfortability feels flexible and firm. The subcompact e-crossover delivers a comfortable and light steering feel with smooth overall electric performance.

Good sound insulation, with all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. 

The cabin can suppress wind, road and tyre noises well, making them barely noticeable at all speeds, even when cruising through bumpy asphalts.

The all-new BYD Atto 2 exudes an energy filled outlook with a BYD hallmark design language that features smooth and seamless body contours.

Interior-wise, its minimalistic and modern layout gives a sense of airiness and easy connectivity to the occupants in the vehicle.

Ultimately, inside and out the build quality is satisfactory, and with its distinctive character, the all-new Atto 2 is truly a contender in its segment.
