Lotus Emeya

A contender in every aspect, the British automaker’s latest electric Hyper-GT (Grand Tourer), the all-new Lotus Emeya, launched in Malaysia.

The all-electric saloon underpins Lotus’ Electric Premium Architecture (EPA), and is a third expansion surging in after the Evjia Hypercar and Electre SUV.

Instead of its homebase in Hethel, England, it is developed in Raunheim, Germany (Lotus Tech Innovation Centre) and built in Wuhan, China (Lotus Tech Factory).

Fully-imported (CBU), Lotus Cars Malaysia (Lotus Karz Sdn Bhd - official distributor) offers three variants (Emeya - MYR 555,000, Emeya S - 643,000, Emeya R - 777,000).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover a standard manufacturer warranty (five years/150,000 KM) and an EV battery warranty (eight years/200,000 KM).

Six (standard) exterior colours (Solar Yellow, Kaimu Grey, Akoya White, Stellar Black, Fireglow Orange, Boreal Grey). Customisation available (Lotus Chapman Bespoke).

Included packs (optional). Lotus Dynamic Handling Pack, Ceramic Brake Pack, Executive Seat Pack, Comfort Seat Pack, Carbon Fibre Pack, Extended Carbon Fibre Pack, Interior Carbon Fibre Pack, Parking Pack and Highway Assist Pack.

The all-new Emeya has an elegantly-futuristic, highly-premium and tier-designed dashboard, linked to a high-rising-broad centre console.

Soft-/hard-touch panelled in a two-tone colour scheme, it sees fitments of Carbon Fibre, PVD Aluminium, Alcantara, Nappa leather and Ultra-Fabrics PU materials.

Centre-staged is the slim-twin display (driver, passenger) with a light band, floating central display (infotainment), and slit-like air-conditioning vents.

Overall, the layout is clean and symmetrical with accessibilities ergonomically-arranged (driver-, passenger-oriented).   

Forming part of its human-machine interface (HMI), installed is a slim-twin setup, featuring two 12.6-Inch TFT instrument displays (driver, passenger). 

The layout sees a blade of light that runs across the cabin (light change sequence - phone call, cabin temperature, vehicle battery charge status). 

Accompanied for the driver is a 55-Inch Head-up Display (HUD) with Augmented Reality (AR) technology.

Inclusively, the setup runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P chips and the Lotus Hyper OS (gaming-derived Unreal Engine 3 - centre screen 3D Emeya).

Standard arrangement is five-seater. Optional is the Executive Seat Pack (four-seater, heating, ventilation, massage, individual-fully-adjustable rear seats).

A single-tone colour scheme, it sees fitments of Carbon Fibre, PVD Aluminium, Alcantara, Nappa leather and Ultra-Fabrics PU materials.

The front sees electronic-powered (driver/passenger - 12-way-adjust, memory, lumbar) sports seats. The rear sees a fixed-configuration bench (bolstered).

Included are armrests (front - centre console, rear - centre seat fold-out), illuminated sill plates (Emeya S, Emeya R) and sports pedals (Emeya S, Emeya R).

Athletically-wide, the cabin offers generous space, providing the front and rear occupants with ample interior mobility. Sufficient head-, shoulder-, and leg-room.

Mounted is a four-spoke-flat-top-bottom steering wheel, in a single-tone (Black) colour scheme with trimmings (Carbon Fibre).

Features are multi-function (Bluetooth, Media, vehicle telematics, voice command), electric column adjustments (tilt, telescopic) and heating.

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Steering system (EPS).

Provided are four cup holders (flush-mounted - two - front, rear), and four bottle holders (one - side doors).

Multiple charging outlets provided. E.g., USB ports, 12 V sockets, and wireless charging.

Accessing its powered-tailgate (contactless - remote/key fob, sensor), opens up to 509-Litres of load capacity.

The all-new Emeya measures at 5,139 MM long, 2,241 MM wide, 1,459 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 3,069 MM.

Seamlessly-chiselled and aerodynamically-sleek, its exterior exudes a cab-forward stance with a long wheelbase and short-overhangs. 

The front-end sees a mildly-dipped bonnet, muscular quarter panels, a smoothly-sculpted bumper (corner vents), and Lotus’ Petal grille (active lower shutters - high-speed-auto-unfold).

Accentuations are body trimmings (Black - bumper lip, side skirts, side vents, side mirrors, window surrounds) and the Lotus insignia (Yellow - top-centre fascia).

Variant-specific, a contrast (Black) roof (Aluminium - Emeya, Emeya S/Glass - Emeya R) and a Carbon Fibre Pack (Emeya R - bonnet panels, front splitter, side skirts, side mirrors, roof).

Sportily-contoured and sharply-sculpted, its silhouette parades an aerodynamically-tapered design with a dipping-short-overhang.

The rear-end sees a fastback roofline, muscular quarter panels, a retractable spoiler (active wing - two-level-auto-unfold), a concave tailgate (corner vents), and a cleanly-sculpted bumper.

Accentuations are body trimmings (Black - tailgate bar, diffuser, side skirts, side mirrors, window surrounds) and the Lotus script (Chrome - centre tailgate bar).

Variant-specific, a contrast (Black) roof (Aluminium - Emeya, Emeya S/Glass - Emeya R) and a Carbon Fibre Pack (Emeya R - spoiler gurney flap, diffuser, side skirts, side mirrors, roof).

Sinisterly-portrayed, the headlamps are in a split-housing design. Top double-L (DRL) and lower bumper-integrated (main).

Installed are Matrix LED units. Features are LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), automatic On/Off/high-beam, welcome lights, and sequential turn signals.

Futuristic-esque, the tail lamps are in a lightbar design. Housed in a sleek strip, stretching across the tailgate.

Installed are full LED units. Features are LED reverse lights, sequential turn signals, and multi-colour light function (charging status, boot-unlocking light).

The side mirrors (Black) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with sequential turn signals, blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Information System - BLIS) and automatic-dimming.

Fitted is a set of lightweight ventilated disc brakes (front, rear), with variant-specific callipers (colours, pistons). 

Variant Emeya gets four-piston (Black) callipers, and variants Emeya S and Emeya R get six-piston (Yellow) callipers.

Variant Emeya cruises on a set of 20-Inch five-spoke single-tone (Grey) alloy rims, rubbered-up in 255/45 R20 (front) and 285/40 R20 (rear) Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

Variant Emeya S rides on a set of 21-Inch five-spoke single-tone (Silver) alloy rims, rubbered-up in 265/40 R21 (front) and 305/35 R21 (rear) Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

Variant Emeya R surges on a set of 21-Inch five-spoke single-tone (Black) alloy rims, rubbered-up in 265/40 R21 (front) and 305/35 R21 (rear) Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

The all-new Emeya is equipped with a comprehensive suite of intelligent (dual Nvidia Drive Orin chips) Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Standard systems are Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA), Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning/Prevention (LKA+), Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Sign Information (TSI), Front and Rear Park Assist, Visual Park Assist and Lotus Intelligent Dynamic Chassis Control.

Others include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control System (TCS), and Hill Start Assist (HSA).

Optional is the Highway Assist Package, adding on the LIDAR system (retractable - roof, front fenders, tailgate), and the Parking Package, adding on Remote Parking Assists.

Passive safety includes six airbags (driver-passenger, front side, front-rear curtains), seat belts (reminders, pre-tensioners, anchors), ISOFIX, parking sensors (six - front, rear), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), Door Opening Warning (DOW), automatic-dimming rear-view mirrors (interior, exterior), crash sensor, driver monitoring system, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and anti-theft system (security alarm, engine-immobiliser).

Multiple drive modes available (Range, Tour, Sport, Individual, Track). 

Installed is an ‘Intelligent Cockpit’ setup, featuring a centrally-mounted ‘floating’ 15.1-Inch full HD OLED display (automatic flat-fold stow). 

The ultra-slim, one-billion-colour OLED unit from ECARX offers fully customisable displays via an advanced Driver Information Module (DIM).

Features are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), 5G compatibility, online music/weather/navigation, voice command and Bluetooth.

Optional (Executive Seat Pack - four-seater layout) is a 9.0-Inch rear touchscreen infotainment display (foldable, central armrest). 

Inclusively, the setup runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155P System-On-Chips and the Lotus Hyper OS (Unreal Engine 3 - next-generation-real-time 3D content).

Entertainment is channelled via a KEF Reference Audio system with Uni-QTM and surround sound technology (1,380 W, 15 speakers).

Optional is a KEF Reference Audio system with Uni-Q, Uni-Core and surround sound technology (2,160 W, 23 speakers).

The Emeya R gets the sports motor sound option.

The all-new Emeya harbours a dual-electric-motor setup (front-rear-mounted), with variant-specific tunings.

Variants Emeya and Emeya S read an output of 450 KW (603 HP) and 710 NM. Variant Emeya R generates an output of 675 KW (905 HP) and 985 NM.

Mated to the engines are variant-specific automatic transmissions. A single-speed system (Emeya, Emeya S) and a dual-speed system (Emeya R).

Power is transmitted to all four wheels, via an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, featuring the Lotus ICC intelligent torque distribution suite. 

Variant Emeya R adds on rear-wheel steering (Handling Pack).

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 4.2 seconds (Emeya, Emeya S) and 2.8 seconds (Emeya R). 

Top speed is 250 KM/H (Emeya, Emeya S) and 256 KM/H (Emeya R).

Employed is Lotus’ 800 V Electric Premium Architecture (EPA), featuring a 102 KWH Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery. 

AC charging (Type-2, 22 KW) takes 5.5 hours for a 0% to 100% State-of-Charge (SoC). DC charging (CCS2, 350 KW) takes 18 minutes for a 10% to 80% SoC.

The total electric driving range (WLTP) figures at 610 KM (Emeya), 540 KM (Emeya S) and 435 KM (Emeya R).

Ride comfort is firm and agile with sensitive steering at all speeds. Suitable as a daily-driver and track-day outings. 

Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, overall ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The cabin is acoustically designed, enhancing the in-car ambience.

Overall, the cabin is able to suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable even when cruising through bumpy asphalts. 

The all-new Lotus Emeya is built with a sophisticatedly-sporty appeal, while still being able to offer space and practicality.

A beautifully-sculpted exterior, it is well designed with clean and seamless lines, donating a powerful contour, emphasising its low-slung silhouette. 

British-made, the quality of the equipment and materials installed inside, is also impressive with the upscale, mature design and restrained detailing.
