Long awaited, Suzuki’s latest offering (2025), the all-new Suzuki Fronx (first-generation), officially launched in Malaysia.

A Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV), the B-segment (subcompact crossover SUV) runner underpins Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform.

Fully imported (CBU – Indonesia), available via Naza Eastern Motors (Suzuki Cars Malaysia) is one variant (Fronx Hybrid – RM147,888).

Price (OTR, w/o insurance) includes vehicle (three years/100,000 km) and hybrid battery (five years/100,000 km) warranties.

Exterior (single-tone: standard) colours (Pearl Mellow Deep Red, Cool Black, Pearl Snow White, Magma Grey).

The all-new Fronx gets an angular cascading and tiered dashboard, linked to a low-rising centre console (armrest, wireless charger, storage).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees upholstery (leatherette) and contrast panels (Aluminium, Gloss Black) in one colour scheme (dual-tone: Black-Burgundy).

Equipped are the driver/central displays (dash embedded: instrument cluster – floating: infotainment) and air-conditioning system (vents: angular – control panel: switches).

Inclusively, the layout is ergonomic (functional) with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

Installed is a semi-analogue driver display (instrument cluster) with a 4.2-inch colour TFT LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) Multi-Information Display (MID). Included is a Head-Up Display (HUD).

Features are vehicle telematics, Bluetooth and voice recognition.

Weighing in at 1,060 kg, the all-new Fronx stands at 3,995 mm long, 1,765 mm wide, 1,550 mm tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,520 mm.

Solidly sporty and rugged, it exudes a dynamically curvaceous exterior, emphasised by roundly sculpted and angularly cut contours.

The front-end sees a formed bonnet (raised sides), muscular quarter panels (flared fenders, wheel arch extensions) and a sculpted bumper (grille: square-pattern insert, bar trim, Suzuki emblem – vents: lower-centre – skid plates: front, side body).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: bumper, wheel arch extensions, side sills), body trims (Black: grille insert, vents, B-pillars, headlamp/window surrounds – body-colour: bumper, fenders, door handles – Silver: front/side skid plates – Chrome: grille bar, Suzuki emblem), side mirrors (arms: Black – cap: body-colour dependent) and roof rails (Silver).

Athletically solid, it continues the dynamically curvaceous profile, emphasised by roundly angular and horizontally symmetrical surfaces.

The rear-end sees a mildly dipped roofline (roof-edge spoiler, shark fin antenna), muscular quarter panels (flared fenders, wheel arch extensions), a tapered tailgate (Suzuki/Fronx emblems) and a covered bumper (cutouts: vertical corners, fog lamps – skid plates: rear, side body, hidden exhaust).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: bumper, wheel arch extensions, side sills), body trims (Black: B/C-pillars, tail lamp/window surrounds – body-colour: bumper, fenders, door handles – Silver: rear/side skid plates – Chrome: Suzuki/Fronx emblems), roof-edge spoiler (body-colour dependent), shark fin antenna (body-colour dependent) and roof rails (Silver).

Angularly embedded, the split headlamps (main: lower bumper, DRLs: upper bumper) are housed large (main) and slim (DRLs). Installed are full LED (reflectors) units.

Features are automatic On/Off/cornering/low-/high-beam, High Beam Assist (HBA), Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED).

Seamless, the tail lamps are framed slim and full width (lightbar) with sharp wrapped-around edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Included are a high-mounted stop light (spoiler integrated) and a set of fog lamps.

The side mirrors (body-colour dependent) are electronic-powered (auto-fold, adjust), with turn signals (LED) and blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Monitor: BSM).

Fitted are ventilated disc (front) and drum (rear) brakes. 

Drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system and a Brake Energy Recuperation (regenerative braking) system.

Fitted is a set of 16-inch (multi-spoke – Black) alloy rims, wrapped in 195/60 R16 (front, rear) tyres.

The all-new Fronx is equipped with the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Grouped are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Vehicle Swaying Warning (VSW), High Beam Assist (HBA) and Pedestrian Protection. 

Other systems include Surround View Camera (SVC: 360-degree), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Hill Hold Control (HHC), Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBSII) and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold.

Passive safety includes six (driver-passenger, front sides, front-rear curtains) airbags, seat belts (reminders, pre-tensioners, anchors), ISOFIX (two: outer-rear seats), parking sensors (four: rear), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), rear-view mirror (exterior: BSM), automatic-door locks (speed-sensing, central-locking), automatic windows (anti-pinch, one-touch up/down), automatic headlamps (On/Off/cornering/low-/high-beam), automatic wipers (rain-sensing, intermittent), impact beams and anti-theft system (security alarm, immobiliser).

Installed is an 9.0-inch HD touchscreen central display (infotainment).

Features are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, media, voice recognition and vehicle telematics.

Entertainment is channelled via a standard sound system (six speakers).

The all-new Fronx underpins a mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain.

Nestled is a (K15C: DualJet engine) 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder 16-valve, naturally aspirated multi-port injection (NA-MPI) with variable valve timing (VVT) DOHC petrol engine, mated to a Mild Hybrid (12 V: Integrated Starter Generator – ISG) system. 

Total system output (74 kW/101 PS, 135 NM).

Churning the setup is a six-speed automatic transmission (paddle shifters).

Power is rooted to the front wheels, via a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) system.

Fuel tank capacity is 37 litres, and powering the mild hybrid system is a Lithium-Ion battery (1.2 kWh). Combined driving range (WLTP: 700 km).

A suitable daily driver, the ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time, providing great power with agile handling.

Propping-up the chassis is a suspension setup of MacPherson struts (front) and torsion beam (rear).

Inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Good sound insulation with the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects accounted for. The cabin is well-designed, enhancing the in-car ambience.

Overall, the cabin can suppress unwanted noises well and make them barely noticeable, even when cruising through bumpy asphalts or at high speeds.
