Suzuki Jimny

Love it or hate it, it’s still a head-turner regardless. A welcomed return, the all-new Suzuki Jimny (fourth-generation), now in Malaysia. 

Fully-imported (CBU), the two-door 4x4 hailing from Japan comes in two guises. The standard Jimny, and the Jimny Rhino Edition (limited-edition - 30 units). 

Priced (OTR, w/o insurance) at MYR 168,900 and MYR 174,900, they include a three-year/100,000 KM manufacturer’s warranty.

Upgrade. Available is the Jimny Rhino Kit (MYR 15,000), offering the same enhancements (exterior - body kit, decals, colour) as the limited-edition model.

Exterior colours. Kinetic/Bluish Black Pearl 3 (two-tone - roof), Bluish Black Pearl 3, Jungle Green, Medium Grey, and Pure Pearl White (Jimny Rhino Edition).

The Suzuki Jimny has a highly-sculpted dashboard, all-black and three-tiered with squared-off elements all around. 

Commanding the layout is the infotainment and instrument cluster setups, of which the latter is in a unique protruding design.

Overall, the cockpit is ergonomic. All the buttons and other accessibilities are purposefully arranged, driver-centric and user-friendly.

Installed is an analogue (tachometer, speedometer) instrument cluster display.

High-quality and comfortable, the four-seater’s interior is upholstered in all-black fabric for both guises.

Fitted up front are manual adjustable seats with a walk-in mechanism (passenger). The rear gets a full-flat bench seat with a 50:50 split-fold configuration.

Considering it to be a compact all-terrain, the cabin offers sufficient head, shoulder and leg rooms, thus front, and rear occupants are adequately comfortable.

Numerous storage compartments. E.g., side door and back seat pockets, a dashboard compartment, and a decent-sized glove box.

Mounted is a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, featuring multi-switches (Bluetooth, media, cruise control) and column adjustment (tilt). Drive is aided via a Hydraulic Power Steering (HPS) system. 

Provided are two cup holders and two bottle holders. 

Multiple power outlets available. E.g., one 12V socket, and one USB port.

The boot provides 85-Litres (seats up) and up to 377-Litres (rear seats down) of load capacity.

Weighing in at 1,435 KG, the Suzuki Jimny stands at 3,480 MM long, 1,645 MM wide, 1,720 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,250 MM.

Compact and boxy, exuding an overall rugged demeanour, its exterior is adorned by clean straight contours. 

Boldly styled, the front-end sees a flat and square bonnet, flanked by thin and upright A-pillars with muscular wheel arches.

Accentuating the layout is a standard grille (vertical slats), and a rectangularly-angled bumper (all-black - scratch-resistant).

The Rhino Edition features Rhino decals (bonnet, sides), a heritage grille (mesh insert), silver front skid plate and side sills, red mud-flaps and chrome side mirrors.

Squared-off and symmetrically sculpted, the rear-end complements the overall outlook with clean straight lines.

Minimalistic, it sees a full-flat tailgate with a mounted spare tyre (standard cover), flanked by thin and upright D-pillars with muscular wheel arches.

Filling-up the layout is a rectangularly-angled and tail lamp integrated bumper (all-black - scratch-resistant).

The Rhino Edition features Rhino decals (sides), a Rhino spare tyre cover, a Rhino emblem, silver side sills, and red mud-flaps.

Rounded, the head lamps are integrated with the grille’s frame, creating a unified look. Paired to them is a set of fog lamps (bumper corners). 

Installed are LED projector units with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), automatic light sensing and washer, while the latter are halogen bulb units.

Rectangularly housed and bumper integrated, the tail lamps installed are of halogen bulb units.

The side mirrors are manually adjusted and folded. The Rhino Edition adds on chrome caps.

Fitted is a set of 15-Inch five-twin-spoke dark-metallic-grey alloy rims, rubbered-up in 195/80 R15 Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 All-terrain tyres.

The Suzuki Jimny features the following safety systems. Incorporated are Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill-Hold Control, and Hill-Descent Control.

Passive safety includes two airbags (front – driver, passenger), seatbelt (anchors, reminders, pre-tensioners), ISOFIX (anchors), side impact beams, door ajar warning, pedal release system, and immobiliser. 

Three Off-road modes. 2H (two-wheel drive - high), 4H (four-wheel drive - high), and 4L (four-wheel drive - low).

Installed is a seven-Inch OEM touchscreen infotainment display, supporting Bluetooth, USB, AUX, radio and Apple CarPlay (wired).

The Suzuki Jimny harbours a K15B 1.5-Litre naturally-aspirated VVT four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC petrol engine, producing 100 HP/75KW at 6,000 RPM and 130 NM of torque at 4,000 rpm.

Fitted is a four-speed automatic gearbox. 

Power is sent to all four wheels, via a part-time Four-Wheel Drive (4WD - ALLGRIP PRO) system with a low-range transfer box. 

Further aiding the drive is an Electronic Brake Actuated Limited-Slip Differential (Brake LSD) setup.

Top speed is 140 KM/H. 

Fuel tank capacity is at 40-Litres, and fuel consumption figure reads at 6.8-Litres for every 100 KM. 

The Suzuki Jimny gets auto headlamps (with washer), rain sensing wipers, Ride-in Assist Grip (passenger - horizontal grip bar), steering wheel (multi-function, column adjustment), day and night rear-view mirror, single-zone auto air-conditioning, interior lighting (front - reading), and practical drip rail (exterior roof mounted). 

Good sound insulation, covering all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects. Featured is a laminated windscreen (front), and tempered glass (window - side, rear). 

The Suzuki Jimny is a fun car, offering a uniquely appealing exterior, an overall size like no other, and an all-around thrilling 4WD prowess. 

Inside its shell, boxed-up is a nicely-built cabin, featuring a comfortable sitting and other creature comforts, be it for the city or nature. 

Overall, its build quality is satisfactory inside and out. A unique four-wheeler for Malaysians to consider.
