Catch This Super ‘Garang’ Subaru BRZ in Sepang Next Year!
When the all-new Subaru BRZ was unveiled last month, its looks have gathered mixed reviews among aficionados. Some like the cheerful looking gaping grille (which has hint of the prev-gen Mazda3 and Peugeot 407). Some felt that the gleeful look is a bit too much for a car with sporting intentions.
Regardless of what people may say about the looks, the BRZ Super GT300 released earlier looks properly 'garang' for what it is. Revealed during a Subaru Motorsport fan appreciation live stream. You might want to fast forward to 1:54:52 if you want to see and hear it in action.
As it is with most race cars of such class, there's nothing much shared with the road going version, bar for the headlights, taillights, general silhouette, and the name. It's set to compete in the lower-rung GT300 class, the car is adorned with widened fenders, humongous front splitter and a larger than life rear wing, because well, race car.
There are also the obligatory ducts and vents all over, simplified side mirrors, polycarbonate windows and a set of delicious looking BBS wheels. Subaru did not share any other details on the specification of the BRZ, but it's not far off to say the bodywork is made out of carbon fibre.
Details are also scarce on the power train, but if Subaru's previous entries are anything to go by, it will still be a four-cylinder boxer engine, pushing out much higher numbers than the 228 hp and the 249Nm of the road going version. If you want to catch it in flesh, the Super GT 300 series will be held in Sepang next year, so mark your calendars.
The Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86 model has garnered a sizeable fan base around the world because of what it is - a naturally-aspirated engine in a FR layout, with Japanese reliability. It's perfect for the enthusiast who likes to keep it simple.
