Mercedes-Benz Is Realizing A Fully Touch-Screen Dashboard
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) Hyperscreen system, the centrepiece of the company’s second-generation MBUX system is fully touch-screen and voice-activated, devoid of any physical buttons. It does really span the entire dashboard of the car.
While it does look like a single piece of ultra-high-resolution display spanning from one corner air-conditioning vent to another, the MBUX Hyperscreen is made up of three individual screens.
Both driver and passenger display measures 12.3 inches, while the central display occupies a massive 17.7 inches. Mercedes-Benz says the Gorilla Glass surface measures 2,432 cm2, putting things into perspective that is equivalent to 22 units of Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Thanks to the use of organic LED (OLED), the central and passenger displays can be switched off and appear black when not in use.
The inclusion of artificial intelligence will be the key highlight of this 141-cm long infotainment system. The multiple control units will learn the driver’s habits and choices and suggest these features and functions.
Example of situations includes the lifting of the air suspension at specific GPS coordinates (garage, a stretch of road under construction), specific massage pattern, and phone calling of weekly contacts.
As such, the MBUX Hyperscreen will be equipped with some brawny firepower: 8-core CPU, 24GB RAM, and 46.4GB/s RAM memory bandwidth. 12 tiny motors or actuators under the panel provide haptic feedback for the users.
The MBUX Hyperscreen will make its debut in the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQS, a sedan that is the size of an S-Class limousine.
