Perodua Sets Sales Target At 240,000 Vehicles This Year
Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua), the largest carmaker in Malaysia, aims to sell 240,000 vehicles this year after high demands for its current models as well as the recent announcement regarding the extension of the sales tax exemption.
The sales target is a 9 percent increase from the 220,163 units sold in 2020. The breakdown of the units as follows: 66,330 Myvis, 59,651 Axias, 56,996 Bezzas, 22,494 Aruz, 14,691 Alzas and one other model.
“With the extension of the sales tax exemption to end-June 2021, recent COVID-19 vaccine developments and all our models continuing to be in demand, we believe 2021 will be the year of recovery,” said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
Zainal added that in order for the company to reach their estimated recovery of sales volume, they are expected to purchase RM 6.5 billion worth of locally- sourced components in 2021.
“In addition, with 2020 ending better than previously expected for both Perodua and the industry, we are looking to increase our stock by boosting our production target to 272,000 vehicles this year – the highest in our history. This increase will replenish our stock to ensure brisk delivery this year,” he said.
The company continues to be the largest consumer of automotive components in Malaysia with their models containing more than 90 percent of local parts. Its production target this year is a 23 percent increase compared to the 220,968 units produced in 2020.
Perodua envisions a 20 percent growth in service intakes this year (inclusive of existing and new customers), from 2 million units in 2020 to 2.4 million units in 2021. To achieve this, the company will transform every aspect of its operations, values, and even customer engagement, which is called the ‘Perodua Smart Build’.
“More information and impact of the Perodua Smart Build initiative on Perodua, our partners, the automotive ecosystem and our valued customers will be announced in the near future,” Dato’ Zainal said.
