Porsche Motorsport has unleashed the new seventh generation Porsche 911 GT3 high performance sports car.

The distinctive strength of the new 911 GT3 lies in the sum of its characteristics. The built is inspired from multiple successful race cars, for example the Porsche GT 911 RSR race car and Porsche 911 GT3 R race car.

Inspiration taken from the first race car is the double wishbone front axle layout and sophisticated aerodynamics with swan neck rear wing and striking diffuser. For the latter, its heart under the hood is the muse with the installation of the 503 hp (375 kW), 4-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine.

Furthermore, Porsche has paired the new 911 GT3 with a 6-speed manual transmission. It has a top speed of 320 kph running with the manual transmission (MT), while with the trademark Porsche double-clutch transmission (PDK) it clocks out at 318 kph. It accelerates from 0-100 kph in just 3.4 seconds.

Fuel consumption wise, the 911 GT3 with MT has a consumption of 13.3-litres for every 100 km with CO2 emissions combined of 304 g/km. While the 911 GT3 with PDK has a consumption of 12.4-litres for every 100 km with CO2 emissions combined of 283 g/km.

On one hand, the 911 GT3 has aerodynamics which benefits from experiences gained from motor racing and has significantly more downforce without affecting the drag coefficient. The aerodynamic pressure for high cornering speeds increases significantly from the manually set wing and diffuser elements.

Albeit being built with a wider body, larger wheels and additional technical features, the weight of the new 911 GT3 is still on a par with its predecessor. It weighs 1.418 kg when installed with the manual gearbox and slightly heavier at 1.435 kg with the PDK gearbox.

More significant installments are the front bonnet that is made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP), lightweight glass windows, optimized brake discs, forged light-alloy wheels and electrically adjustable exhaust flaps. The lightweight sports exhaust system reduces the weight by 10 kg.

On the other hand, the racing genes of the new 911 GT3 are expressed in more ways than just the exterior. Inside, the cockpit is derived from the current model generation. However it does get some new racing improvements.

A new feature is the track screen where at the touch of a button, it reduces the digital displays to the left and right of the central rev counter. Instead swapping to show information such as tyre pressure indicator, oil pressure, oil temperature, fuel tank level, and water temperature.

Also the instrument cluster includes a visual shift assistant with colored bars to the left and right of the rev counter which reaches up to 10,000 revs, and a shift light derived from Porsche Motorsport.

At the ultimate proving ground for all sports cars, the Nürburgring Nordschleife or also known as the Green Hell, the 911 GT3 managed to lap over 17 seconds faster than its predecessor.

Development driver Lars Kern took the full 20.8-km lap in just 6:59.927 minutes. The shorter 20.6-km track, which had previously served as a benchmark, was completed by the 911 GT3 in 6:55.2 minutes.

Porsche’s brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister said, “It is by far the best production car I have ever driven on the Green Hell.”

A customizable option for the Porsche GT3 models are also available in the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur range. It comes with a lightweight exposed carbon fiber roof, carbon exterior mirror tops, darkened LED matrix headlights, Exclusive design rear lights, and Guards Red or Shark Blue detailing on the rims.

Porsche Design has built a magnificent piece of machinery that is the Porsche 911 GT3. Overall it’s completed with a dynamic design, consistent performance and high-quality workmanship with its housing reflecting the Motorsport genes tremendously amazing.
