ICE-Powered Current Porsche Cayenne Will Live On “Well Into 2030s”
New fourth-gen Porsche Cayenne Electric featuring its trick new 11 kW wireless induction charging tech.

The debut of the new fourth-gen Porsche Cayenne Electric earlier today marks a new milestone for the renowned German sportscar marque – it’s the most technologically advanced and most powerful production model to ever wear its revered crest.
However, as we saw in the second-gen Macan, going electric only may not be ideal – it leaves out select buyers who aren’t ready for the switch. In the case for both of Porsche’s high-volume SUV nameplates, that leaves out a lot of customers indeed.
Good news for Cayenne buyers not ready to make the switch as Porsche confirmed plans to keep the current combustion (ICE) version of which around "well into the 2030s."

Well, the good news is that Porsche has reportedly confirmed that the current combustion (ICE) versions of the Cayenne will live on longer. In fact, one source quoted by Autocar UK confirmed the super-SUV nameplate will be offered with three powertrains – petrol, hybrid and electric – “well into the 2030s.”
“we will continue to develop the Cayenne with efficient combustion and hybrid drive systems well into the next decade,” said Porsche marketing head Matthias Becker to the UK title. Of course, this also means the current Cayenne model won’t soldier on that long without changes.

Current face-lifted third-gen Porsche Cayenne in standard (left) and S E-Hybrid Coupe (right) guises. Both are also locally built (CKD) in Kulim, Kedah.

Previously, Porsche had reportedly confirmed it will develop and “further upgrade” the current third-generation Cayenne. No timeline was put forward for which, but given that said model just received an extensive mid-cycle refresh in 2023, we reckon it will be a while before it receives another round changes.
As a refresher, the current face-lifted third-gen Porsche Cayenne debuted in April 2023, with Porsche slowly expanding the range further since to include plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants alongside pure ICE ones.
Closer to home, this perhaps indicates that current local assembly (CKD) efforts for the face-lifted third-gen Cayenne in standard and electrified S E-Hybrid Coupe variants will continue unaffected.

Come Jan 1, 2026, prices for both the second-gen Macan Electric (left) and Taycan (right) are set to increase as Malaysia's CBU EV tax incentives expire.

Moreover, with the impending expiration of the government’s tax breaks for fully imported (CBU) EVs, further boosts the cause for which, meaning the new Cayenne Electric may see itself priced out of reach for most locals.
For reference, with tax breaks in place, the Porsche Macan Electric range sees prices start from RM430,000, whereas the Taycan line-up starts from a higher RM575,000 onwards. Come Jan 1, 2026, these figures are expected to be almost doubled.
