Porsche Setting Up CKD Plant In Malaysia?
This came as a surprise that Porsche is in the mist of setting up an assembly plant in Malaysia, according to The Edge report, citing some unnamed sources close to the matter.
The facility, the first Porsche assembly plant outside of Germany, would be located in Kulim, Kedah and Porsche will be partnering Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Sime Darby Motor, for this venture.
It was also stated that the incentives for the investment have already been approved by the finance ministry and Inokom will build a new factory for Porsche. The former’s facility in Kulim also assembles vehicles from brands like BMW, Hyundai, Mazda and many more.
“ASEAN is a promising region with great potential, and we continuously examine options for further growth in the market,” said Porsche deputy director of corporate communications and spokesperson for production and logistics Christian Weiss, when asked for a comment by The Edge.
As for Sime Darby Motors, it said “The group welcomes any partnership that will add value to our strategic business plans and as such, regularly engages existing and potential partners to explore opportunities to expand their business,”
There you go, both companies did not confirm nor deny the matter. All we can do is to wait and see. We at Caricarz thinks it would be a good idea to make Malaysia as the Southeast Asian region hub for Porsche.
