As we know, the Toyota Corolla Cross will be launched to Malaysian markets this Thursday (25 March). The arrival of the Cross may bring in more competition between its rivals, the Honda HR-V, Subaru XV and Mitsubishi ASX. Here’s how they stack up against each other.

When comparing price, the Toyota Corolla Cross has the lowest price that starts from RM 78,890 (Based on the conversion from Thailand's Prices and Specs), which is followed by Honda HR-V at RM 104,000, then continued with Subaru XV with the starting price of RM 112,138 and finally the Mitsubishi ASX with the starting price of RM118,866.

Under the hood of the Cross is a 1.8L 16 Valve 4 cylinder in-line DOHC 16 Value Electronic Fuel Injection that produces 138 hp at 6,000 rpm and 177 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. As for the HR-V, it is equipped with a 1.8L 16 Valve SOHC, Naturally Aspirated with Variable Valve Timing that produces 140 hp at 6,500 rpm and 172 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm.

However, the XV comes with a 2.0 Flat-4 16 Valve DOHC, Naturally Aspirated with direct injection and variable valve timing that produces 154 hp at 6,000 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Following that, the ASX consists of a 2.0 Inline-4 16 Valve DOHC, Naturally Aspirated with Variable Valve Timing that produces 148 hp at 6,000 rpm and 197 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm.

As for the transmission, the Honda HR-V and the Mitsubishi ASX are both fit with CVT Automatic. However, the Cross is fit with a CVT-i 7-speed with Sequential Shift and Shift Lock transmission and the XV is fit with a Lineartronic with 7-speed manual mode transmission.

The Mitsubishi ASX comes up with the highest fuel consumption at 7.7 L/100km, followed by the XV at 7.3 L/100km (NEDC) and 6.6 L/100km (NEDC) for the HR-V. The vehicle with the lowest fuel consumption is currently the Cross at 6.5 L/100km.

The Toyota Corolla Cross stands at 4,460 mm long, 1,825 mm wide, 1,620 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,640 mm. It weighs 1,385 kg and comes with 487 litres of boot space. Not forgetting the Mitsubishi ASX that stands at 4,365 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, 1,640 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. It weighs 1,375 kg and has 442 litres of boot space.

From the dimensions mentioned above, we can see that the XV is the longest (4,465 mm) in comparison to the Cross. However, the Cross is the widest model (1,825 mm) among the other three and the tallest model (1,640 mm) is the ASX. As for boot space, the Cross has the most space with 487 litres.

At the moment, we can't confirm anything about the upcoming Toyota Corolla Cross, like will it even be offered in the 1.0-litre engine option? But one thing is for sure, viewers at the launch of the Toyota Corolla Cross will be given a more captivating experience as this launch will be the first car launch in 8D Audio in Malaysia. This surround system applies the principles of binaural recording that gives our brain the perception that sounds are coming from different places.
