Recreational vehicle (RV) fans, take note. <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2024/01/more-recreational-vehicle-sites-will-be-established-in-melaka" target="_blank" style="">Starting 1 January 2026, you’ll be able to rent and drive RVs legally in Malaysia.</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/09/mot-mulling-sleep-apnea-monitoring-on-the-road" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Transport Minister Anthony Loke</a> announced that RVs will soon be licensed and regulated for commercial use, a move aimed at supporting the country’s growing RV tourism scene.RVs are specially designed vehicles or trailers that double as transport and temporary accommodation, complete with sleeping areas, mini kitchens, dining spaces and even bathrooms.

“As of 22 August 2025, there are 1,405 RVs registered in Malaysia, mostly small and medium-sized caravans or campervans“We’ve seen a surge in RV rental ads on social media, showing there’s strong and growing interest in this kind of travel," Loke shared.&nbsp;Currently, RVs can only be registered for private use, which limits opportunities for rental services. Under the new policy, only newly registered RVs whether CKD or CBU will be allowed for commercial use.Existing private RVs can also be converted, provided they’re less than 15 years old and pass technical checks by JPJ.

Loke added that MOT is working with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to create a simpler, “single window” licensing process for operators in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.“This is about making RV travel safer, better regulated, and more accessible while protecting users through proper licensing and enforcement,” he concluded.

Starting January 2026, RVs can be licensed for commercial use, making self-drive RV holidays safer and regulated.

A touting driver who <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/08/loke-klia-taxi-touting-betrays-nations-image" target="_blank" style="">allegedly scammed and assaulted two Chinese tourists at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has been caught.</a>
Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the arrest, revealing that the driver’s Perodua Axia was immediately seized. “After our undercover operation at KLIA yesterday, JPJ successfully tracked down and detained the driver. The car has been impounded and an investigation paper has been opened,” he said in a Facebook post, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/06/taxi-touting-at-klia-still-on-the-rise-despite-crackdowns" target="_blank">praising JPJ for their quick work.</a>The incident, which went viral on social media, sparked outrage after the victims shared their ordeal.

The two women had just landed at KLIA2 on September 15 when a man approached them and offered a RM60 ride to their hotel. Thinking it was a fair price, they got into the car, which also had the driver’s wife inside.
But instead of stopping at the hotel, the driver allegedly kept driving into a dark, deserted area before suddenly demanding RM836. The women said they were trapped, terrified, and one of them was choked and slapped several times. <span style="background-color: transparent; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-alternates: normal; font-variant-position: normal; font-variant-emoji: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Their calls to police didn’t go through, leaving them feeling helpless until hotel staff heard their screams and rushed to free them. The driver and his wife fled but were later tracked down.
