The operator says these updates are routine and <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2026/02/apad-to-investigate-kelana-jaya-lrt-breakdowns-prasarana-ordered-to-explain" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">part of standard operational and safety procedures, such as minor maintenance or system checks, including air-conditioning issues</a>. “When a train is withdrawn from service, Rapid Rail implements mitigation measures, including deploying replacement trains if necessary. This ensures that headways are maintained during peak hours and that service reliability is not affected,” the firm said.

However, the ripple effects extended well into the late morning.Commuters barely had time to recover before another glitch struck in the afternoon. At around 3pm, a malfunction involving both train doors and platform screen doors at KLCC station has forced a temporary halt in service.

Although technicians resolved the issue within about 15 minutes and operations resumed by 3.15pm, severe crowding quickly built up at key interchange stations.By 4.15pm, Rapid KL warned of significant congestion across major connecting points and advised passengers to consider alternative routes. Those heading towards KLCC were encouraged to bypass the usual LRT–MRT interchange and instead switch from the MRT Kajang Line at Tun Razak Exchange to the MRT Putrajaya Line, stopping at Persiaran KLCC station, which is within walking distance of the Petronas Twin Towers.Rapid KL later apologised for the repeated service interruptions and thanked passengers for their patience.

The delay, Loke stressed, is not due to cost-cutting measures but unresolved signalling and system stability issues discovered during fault-free run (FFR) testing and commissioning. 
"So far, 14 out of 22 train sets have completed trials, with the remainder still undergoing testing. After all trains pass the FFR stage, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will conduct final inspections before approval for operations," he added.The project’s timeline has shifted multiple times. <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2026/02/lrt3-shah-alam-line-expected-to-open-in-june" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">It was initially slated to open in September 2024, then pushed to December 2025, and now June 2026 following software and system-related issues identified during testing.</a>Beyond delays, LRT3 has also faced scrutiny over its rising cost. Launched in 2016 with an initial price tag of RM9 billion, the figure later ballooned to RM31.7 billion after previously excluded costs including consultancy fees, operational expenses and interest during construction.In 2018, the government revised the scope, shelving five stations and cancelling one, which brought the cost down to RM16.63 billion.
Subsequently, five stations which consist of Tropicana, Raja Muda, Temasya, Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanik were reinstated, adding RM5.3 billion to the project and bringing the total cost to RM21.93 billion.

As for accountability, <a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2026/02/lrt3-shah-alam-line-expected-to-open-in-june" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;">the project carries liquidated ascertained damages (LAD) of RM2.73 million per day for delays, equivalent to 0.024% of the total contract value.</a> The main contractor, Setia Utama LRT3, a unit of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) will be responsible for the compensation, although the final amount will only be determined once the project is fully completed.

Malaysia’s<a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2026/02/malaysia-tables-rts-link-bill-2026-to-enable-joint-ciq-at-jbsingapore-stations" target="_blank" style=""> long-awaited Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link</a> is moving closer to reality, and commuters can expect ticket prices to be revealed in the second half of 2026.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said fares are expected to range between S$5 and S$7 per trip (around RM15 to RM22). Once operational, the system will deploy driverless trains capable of carrying up to 10,000 passengers per hour per direction, significantly easing daily congestion between the two countries. At the Bukit Chagar Integrated Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) Complex, 100 immigration e-gate lanes will be installed to streamline border clearance.The cross-border rail project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. When it begins service, it will replace KTM’s Shuttle Tebrau service, which currently charges RM5 from JB to Woodlands and S$5 (RM15) in the opposite direction.&nbsp;Fares for the RTS are set by RTS Operations,<a rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.carz.com.my/2025/12/malaysiasingapore-ink-additional-agreement-for-rts-link" target="_blank" style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; white-space-collapse: preserve;"> a joint venture between Malaysia’s Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Singapore’s SMRT Corporation.&nbsp;</a>According to Loke, pricing is determined based on commercial principles.
