Toyota Yaris Won The European Car Award 2021
Toyota’s popular little hatchback, the Yaris, has consistently been one of the best in its class ever since it first appeared back in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The latest iteration of the car has already won acclaim for its looks and performance. The new Yaris has won the European Car of the Year Award for 2021, making it the second time that the Yaris has achieved a victory in the Car of the Year awards.
In this year’s 58th edition, seven new models among 29 candidates were named in the shortlist, and on March 1, the winner was announced with the Yaris named the 2021 car of the year.
The majority in the shortlist were BEVs and PHEVs by European automakers.
The Car of the Year 2021 awards were held in Palexpo, at the usual venue for the Geneva Motor Show and they were broadcast to a global audience. The Yaris took the top spot for European Car of the Year with a total of 266 points and 14 best votes, beating the Fiat New 500 that scored with 240 points and nine best votes.
Toyota Yaris is now a double winner of the prestigious award. Toyota Motor Europe executive vice president Matt Harrison said, “This is a great honor for Toyota and I’d like to thank the Jury for their consideration and recognition. I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognize the passion of our development teams in Europe and Japan. This is the best ever Yaris, and just as Akio Toyoda intended, it is already putting a smile on the face of our customers."
