Toyota Yaris Gets Second 2023 MY Update – Bigger Screen, Bigger Price

UMW Toyota Motors (UMWT) has once again updated its B-segment hatchback fighter this year, as the 2023 Toyota Yaris now comes with a bevy of new tech, as well as a slightly-revised price list. This new update follows the previous one that took place in May this year, where the J variant was dropped from the lineup for good.

The newly-updated Yaris gets bigger 9-inch central infotainment screen
For the second 2023 model year (2023 MY) update, the Yaris now comes with a bigger 9-inch central infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, dropping the old 7-inch gear in the process. Meanwhile, drivers also get a new 4.2-inch Optitron metre cluster, while the seats now get redesigned fabric upholstery finished in black.

Other standard tech bits offered to the 2023 Yaris include the wireless charging pad, new USB-C port for the front passengers, Vehicle Telematics System (VTS), pre-installed RFID tag, as well as a front digital video recorder (DVR), with the latter upgradable to include a rear unit for an extra RM380.

Unlike the facelifted Yaris hatchback in Thailand, the 2023 Yaris still retains the same look as before, with the new exterior bits offered being its updated front and rear skirting, as well as an optional two-tone paint finish with a striking black roof for the Red Mica and Platinum White Pearl colours. It still rolls on the same 16-inch alloy wheels as before, while kits like LED lights, auto-fold side mirrors, as well as chrome door handles – the latter only offered to the range-topping 1.5G variant.

The 2023 Yaris still employs the same 1.5L Dual VVT-i mill as before
Speaking of variants, both the 2023 Yaris 1.5E and 1.5G model are powered by the ol’ reliable 2NR-FE 1.5-litre 4-cyl nat-asp mill that outputs 107 PS and 140 NM. Power is then sent to its front wheels (FWD) via a CVT automatic gearbox with seven-speed Shiftmatic mode. The only notable mechanical difference between the two variants are the rear disc brakes, which is offered exclusively to the 1.5G variant.

On the safety front, the 2023 Yaris is still offered with the same level of active and passive safety features. Key highlights include seven airbags, while the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ADAS suite garners it with active safety features like pre-collision system (PCS), lane departure alert (LDA), and blind-spot monitors (BSM) with rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA).

By far the biggest update on the 2023 Toyota Yaris is in its price, as this updated hatchback now starts at RM88,000 on-the-road for the baseline 1.5E variant – about RM4,700 higher than before. Meanwhile, the range-topping Yaris 1.5G now has broken the RM90,000-mark, now priced at RM91,600. Included with said prices are the standard 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty offered by UMWT.
