Hyundai and Singtel Confirms Collaboration Towards Smart Mobility Venture!
Hyundai Motor Company and Singtel recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on a series of journeys with the aim of supporting smart manufacturing and connectivity for electric vehicle battery subscription service.

According to the statement made in October last year, this collaboration will bring the establishment of the new Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS) that will be used to conduct research on future mobility as well as look into innovative solutions, services and disruptive technologies that will be able to bring better transport experience to commuters.
With Hyundai’s and Singtel’s combined expertise, this collaboration will be able to produce Industry 4.0 advanced digital solutions that will allow the transformation of how vehicles are currently manufactured.
To start off, the companies will come up with and evaluate a 5G-enabled smart factory use case for HMGICS’ state-of-the-art manufacturing platform.
“Hyundai is delighted to work with Singtel, implementing next-generation communication solutions that will enhance mobility experiences for our customers,” said Senior Vice President of HMGICS at Hyundai Motor Company, Hong Bum Jun. “We also hope to explore future innovative solutions and business opportunities with Singtel to help realise Singapore’s Smart Nation vision.”
Following that, the parties will also work towards an IoT communications solution for the batteries powering Hyundai’s electric vehicles (EVs) in Singapore. With this, Hyundai will be able to keep track of the telemetry, or the automatic data transmission of the real-time status and performance of the batteries. Not only that, the insights driven by data will be able to enhance the reliability of EVs.

“Our collaboration with Hyundai Motor is timely given the Singapore Government’s decision to phase out internal combustion engine vehicles by 2040 and the recent Budget announcement on new policies to encourage more Singaporeans to switch to driving electric vehicles. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible with 5G, IoT and other advanced technologies, we also want to build up Singapore’s smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 capabilities and strengthen its innovation ecosystem,” said Managing Director, Government and Large Enterprise, Group Enterprise at Singtel, Andrew Lim.
The HMGICS seven-storey innovation centre will be located at Jurong West. The 44,000 sq m establishment is said to be completed by the end of 2022.
