Hyundai Slashes Their Combustions And Charges Ahead With Their Electrifications

Nowadays, it comes to no surprise as almost every automaker on earth is either ahead of the game or progressing swiftly toward the development of electric vehicles.

Case in point, Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), which includes the Hyundai brand among others, has made it clear that significant electrification plans are underway.

As such, the Korean automaker will reportedly slash the number of internal combustion engine models in its line-up that are currently being offered.

Reuters reported that the company would cut up to 50 percent of Hyundai’s current fuel-powered models in the next few years. The decision was unanimously concurred by Hyundai executives in March.

It stated that the move is meant to free up resources to develop battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.

Despite the unaffirmed timing, an official announcement of the complete strategy will likely come later this year as the company has reportedly stopped developing new powertrains for fuel-powered cars.

On that note, back in May, HMG also announced a strategy in which the company plans to invest 7.4 billion USD (RM 30,706,300,000) in the U.S BY 2025.

Said investment consists of producing future electric and fuel-cell electric vehicles, enhancing production facilities and further its investments in innovative mobility solutions.

Also, Hyundai aims to gradually expand EV offerings in key markets such as North America, Europe and China with an ultimate goal of halting sales for all combustion engine vehicles by 2040.

Clearly, Hyundai’s EV ambitions have been making headlines lately with the stellar-looking Ioniq 5, and the company has said that there’ll be more models coming in the future.
