Hyundai’s EV Sub-Brand’s Latest Production, The Ioniq 5
Hyundai’s latest ‘Ioniq’ model was first unveiled earlier this year as the ’45 EV’ concept, since then the production model has been disclosed and it bears close resemblance to the concept car’s design.

Dubbed as the Ioniq 5, this electric vehicle (EV) is meant to be a crossover SUV, despite it portraying an outlook and impression of a hatchback vehicle from the future.

Dimension wise, the Ioniq 5 can be seen with a stance that has a length of 4,635 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, a height of 1,605 mm and with a wheelbase spanning 3,000 mm.

Fixating on the front, a pair of pixelated LED headlights can be seen installed. It sports a new space-age front design, in which a midsized gap has been fitted where the grilles should be. Also, positioned on the nose is a massive Hyundai logo.

Gazing at the rear, the taillamps installed features a single-piece design with pixelated graphics. It stretches from one edge to the other, spanning the full width in the middle of the tailgate. Tilt to the top, present is a sporty and slim roof-edge spoiler.

Panning to the sides, the Ioniq 5 EV has been equipped with sleek cladding on the wheel arches. The fender claddings have a very commanding presence and paired with the arrow-like D-pillars, it further emphasizes the vehicle’s futuristic crossover credentials.

Diving into the interior, the dashboard features a dual-display screen setup measuring about 12-inches each that comprises the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system.

Equipped for the driver is a two-spoke steering wheel that has integrated control features for the audio, cruise control, and drive selector. Furthering the ultramodern ambience, the sleek AC vents have been neatly integrated into the dashboard.

On the performance aspects, the Ioniq 5 is made available with two battery options. A Long Range model with an output of 72.6 kWh and a Standard Range model with an output of 58 kWh.

Both ranges have also been made available in RWD with single motor powertrain and an AWD with dual motor powertrain options.

The Standard Range model with the single-motor has a rating of 170 PS and with the dual-motor, a rating of 235 PS. As for the Long Range model, it has been rated at 218 PS with the single-motor and 306 PS with the dual-motor.

Ioniq 5’s cell packs can support 220 kW DC charging that reduces the overall charging time by a massive degree. Thus, the company claims that the Ioniq 5 EV can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

All things considered, the Ioniq 5 is already on sale in a few international markets such as Europe and the UK. When will the South Korean car giant offer our Malaysian market the compact crossover is still of the unknown?
