The intention of the ambulance driver to bring three accident victims for immediate treatment was not fulfilled when the ambulance they were riding in was also involved in an accident.
The ambulance is believed to have overturned several times after colliding with a trailer at Jalan Ayer Hitam Batu 49, Simpang Renggam, Kluang yesterday.
It was even more heartbreaking when the accident also claimed the life of a medical assistant in the ambulance. At the same time, the ambulance driver, Othman Ghafan, 50, and a female patient were reported seriously injured.
Meanwhile, the other two passengers, a man and a woman who were in the ambulance, only faced minor injuries.
The investigation found that the ambulance involved was on its way carrying three accident victims from Machap to be sent to Hajjah Khalsom General Hospital (HEBHK) for treatment.
However, the intention of the ambulance driver was not accomplished when the vehicle was also involved in an accident.
“As soon as the Operations Output Team (PKO) was at the scene, there was a small fire at the front of the ambulance belonging to the Ministry of Health (MOH), but the public successfully extinguished the fire.
"The medical assistant was confirmed dead at the scene while all the injured victims were rushed to hospital," said Senior Fire Officer II Operations Commander Abd Rahim Razali.
On the other hand, the 35-year-old trailer driver was reported safe and did not suffer any injuries.
The cause of the fire as a result of the accident is still under investigation.
