Volkswagen ID. Life Makes Its Debut At International Motor Show IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich

Volkswagen recently brought in a compact crossover concept car, the ID. LIFE fits into the small car segment. The ID. LIFE concept car was introduced at the International Motor Show IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich. It is said to be priced around 20,000 euros. “The ID. LIFE is our vision of next-generation fully electric urban mobility.
The concept car provides a preview of an ID. model in the small car segment that we will be launching in 2025, priced at around 20,000 euros. This means we are making electric mobility accessible to even more people”, said its chief executive officer Ralf Brandstätter.
“In creating the ID. LIFE, we have consistently focused on the needs of younger customers. We believe that, even more so than today, the car of the future will be about lifestyle and personal expression. Tomorrow’s customers won’t simply want to get from A to B; they will be much more interested in the experiences that a car can offer. The ID. LIFE is our answer to this.”
The concept car gives off an unmistakable, pared-down and high-quality vibe. LIFE is are movable roof made of air chamber textile that allows for reduced weight of the vehicle. It is also equipped with the ID.

According to the company, the concept car is inspired by a smaller variant of Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB). However, the ID. LIFE is the first vehicle based on MEB that comes with front-wheel drive.
Equipped with a 172 kW (234 PS) electric motor, the vehicle can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Not only that, but its 57 kWh high-voltage battery also allows for a range of some 400 kilometres (WLTP).
“The ID. LIFE proves once again how uniquely flexible the MEB is. The platform is suitable for vehicles of all types, from small cars to vans. “It’s the most scalable electrical architecture in the industry. We’re just beginning to tap into the potential of MEB. Performance, charging capacity and range will continue to improve with each new model and software update,” said a member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management for Development, Thomas Ulbrich.
Made with natural and recycled materials, its exterior highlights include wood chips used for natural colouring agents along with a bio-based hardener, as well as an air chamber textile made of 100% recycled PET bottles.
As for the interior, wood in the dashboard and rear seat surrounds is combined with ArtVelours Eco for the seat surfaces and door trims. In addition to that, materials for its tyres include bio-oil, natural rubber and rice husks.
Next to that, the ID. LIFE can also be turned into a cinema or gaming lounge as the car is equipped with a video game console, projector, and projection screen. Passengers also have access to a 230-volt / 16-amp power supply to connect any of their devices. For further convenience, the front and rear seat benches can be completely folded down.
Following an innovative digital operating concept, the exterior and interior mirrors are replaced with cameras and a display. A noteworthy feature is the touch panel on the hexagonal, open-topped steering wheel that can control essential driving functions.
Not forgetting that passengers’ personal devices such as smartphones or tablets can also be used to handle the navigation system.
Volkswagen targets a 70 percent increase in the share of all-electric models in total vehicle sales in Europe and a 50 percent increase for North America and China.
