Showcasing The Possibilities Of Its New E-Motor, Ford Presents The F-100 Eluminator

Showcasing the possibilities of its new electric motor, the Blue Oval presents its one-off build of a 1978 Ford pickup that runs purely on electricity, the F-100 Eluminator concept.

This vintage-themed e-build notes that anyone with the right skills and tools can buy the Eluminator e-motor off the shelf and fit it into a custom-built electric vehicle or classic car.

Dissecting the build, the F-100 Eluminator one-off features two of the said motors, one at each axle, giving it an all-wheel-drive system.

It shares the same engineering with the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition and generates a claimed output of 480 hp and 860 Nm of torque.

Conversely, as a standalone, the Eluminator motor that derives from the speedy Mustang Mach-E GT SUV produces 281 hp and 430 of torque. 

Currently, Ford sells just the motor for USD 3,900 (RM 16,397) but plans to eventually sell everything that’s needed for a DIY EV project, including battery systems and controllers. 

On another note, revamping vintage vehicles with high-tech electric motors isn't a new discovery, it’s actually a thriving industry.

For instance, California-based Zelectric specialises in old Volkswagens and Porsches. England's Lunaz Design methodically restores classic Bentleys, Jaguars, Rolls Royces, and Range Rovers.

Then, for General Motors, it said in 2020 it plans to sell a kit that includes a battery pack, motor, and various other components out of the Chevrolet Bolt.

In short, established automakers are not just doubling down on EV sales. Instead, they're getting into the electric restoration and modification game as well.
