Here Comes The Much Anticipated Toyota Corolla Cross
UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd has finally revealed the highly anticipated all-new Toyota Corolla Cross offering two variants with a starting price of RM 124,000.
“The new Toyota Corolla Cross enters the ever-growing modern SUV segment, catering to a new generation of mobile adventurous consumers. We are confident that it will prove to be yet another winner as it is ideal for today’s active lifestyles,” said UMW Toyota Motor President Ravindran K.
At the same time, UMW Toyota Motor Deputy Chairman Akio Takeyama mentioned that initial market studies have shown that there is a strong and positive response to this new type of Corolla.
“This response is not surprising as there is great demand for SUVs globally. As such, we will have this model assembled locally around the end of this year,” Akio said.
Although a member of the Corolla family, the Toyota Corolla Cross has entirely different styling from the popular Corolla Sedan. It has a bold design which indicates a sporty and fun-to-drive character with the functionality of a SUV.
The two variants available are the Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8G and Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8V. It carries a starting price of RM 124,000 (With SST Exemption until June 30, 2021) for the Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8G and RM 134,000 (Without SST Exemption) for the Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8V.
All prices mentioned are without insurance and only for vehicles registered in Peninsular Malaysia. The reason for the 1.8V is priced without SST exemption, simply because the deliveries for the 1.8V are expected to begin in July 2021, exceeding the current SST exemption period, which is expected to end on June 30, 2021.
Both of the Corolla Cross are powered by the 1.8-litre petrol DOHC engine with Dual VVT-i that delivers 137 hp at 6,400 rpm and 172 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.
It is paired to the 7-speed sequential shiftmatic transmission (CVT) with an electronically-controlled throttle to provide responsiveness, smoothness and quietness.
Its dimensions are 4,460 mm in overall length, 1,825 mm in overall width and stands at 1,620 mm in height. It has a ground clearance of 161 mm. The boot space of the Corolla Cross is measured at 440 litres with all seats up. By folding the 60:40 split folding seats it extends the space to be able to carry two road bicycles in it.
Toyota Corolla Cross is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). It has a lower center of gravity and can improve stability during corners, as well as its ride comfort. It also has a 5.2-metres turning radius, making it easy to park the SUV.
Some of the standard features includes leather upholstery, multi-function leather steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment, single-zone automatic climate control, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Miracast, eight-way powered adjusted driver seat, 12-volt power socket, two USB Type-A charging ports, rear centre air vents powered tailgate with kick sensor, powered side mirrors with LED turn indicators and blind spot monitoring, instrument cluster with the 4.2-inch colour Multi-Information Display (MID), smart entry with push start button, as well as foot pedal parking brake.
The 1.8G is equipped with halogen projector headlamps with daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, 17-inch twin five-spoke wheels, LED combination tail lamps.
As for the 1.8V, it is fitted with bi-LED headlamps with daytime running lights, 18-inch dual tone alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, and acoustic windshield. On top of that, there is also an option to install the wireless Qi charging bay.
The standard safety features for both variants include the digital video recorder, engine immobiliser, 7 SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system, hill-start assist control, vehicle stability control, traction control, tyre pressure warning system, 3D panoramic view monitor and ISOFIX child seat mounting points.
The 1.8G variant comes with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, passive cruise control and six parking sensors.
As for the 1.8V variant, it comes with the Toyota Safety Sense that includes safety features like the Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) and Automatic High Beam (AHB), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). The Toyota Corolla Cross has also rated five stars in the ASEAN NCAP crash test.
Both the Corolla Cross are also equipped with the Vehicle Telematics System (VTS) that can track the vehicle’s position using GSM/GPS signals. If the vehicle is stolen, a 24/7 Command Centre will locate it and inform relevant authorities to recover it. Owners of Corolla Cross will enjoy a 3-years free subscription of the VTS.
There are 5 exterior colours : Red Mica Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Metalstream Metallic, Graphite Metallic and Nebula Blue Metallic for both variants.
Every Toyota Corolla Cross is covered with a five year unlimited mileage warranty.
The new Corolla Cross 1.8G is now available for viewing, testing and purchase at the showrooms of all authorised Toyota dealerships and UMWT branches nationwide. However, the Corolla Cross 1.8V will be available at a later date but bookings are accepted now. Bookings are also made available at its virtual showroom online.
