The carelessness of a pickup truck driver or (4x4) has caused the lives of two children and a couple whose wife is found pregnant.

The unfortunate event took place at Sultan Iskandar Highway, Kuala Lumpur yesterday involving a man aged 27 years old who drove a Toyota Hilux pickup truck and a family of four in Hyundai Starex MPV.

Such a tragedy happened after the Hilux driver had lost his control and its vehicle jumped into the opposite lane which then crashed victims in a Starex MPV.

Their identities were identified as Milan Damani, 32, and S C Tinisha, 31, as well as two sons, Ishaan Ivaan Damani, three, and Rivaan Ivaan Damani, four years old.

Tinisha is pregnant with her third child, but the gestational age was not revealed.

"As a result of the collision, a pregnant woman with her husband and two children in the Hyundai Starex was confirmed dead at the scene," said Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Head, Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh.

On the other hand, the Hilux owner suffered only minor injuries.

Meanwhile, some pictures shared on the internet showed the roof of the Starex being torn out and the fascia was badly damaged.

Shared by Public Health Malaysia (PHM) on its Facebook page, the number of smaller vehicle drivers hit by pickup trucks are 412 times more at risk of death or serious injury.

According to Monash University Accident Research Center, it shows pickup truck vehicles are at three times the risk of overturning and rolling in an accident.

Big vehicles come with big responsibilities especially on the highways. Do respect the road safety laws and be cautious of other people’s lives.
