Kuching Urban Transportation System Anticipated To Commence In 2028
The first phase of the Kuching Urban Transport System (KUTS) project is 29.89% complete as of April this year, slightly behind the projected 33.86% completion rate.
State Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil told the Sarawak Legislative Assembly that phase one will commence operations incrementally. The initial Blue Line segment, connecting Rembus to Riveria, is now anticipated to begin service in the fourth quarter of the following year.
"This is later than the initially targeted date due to construction delays," he told See Chee How (IND-Batu Lintang) ,adding that the full operation of the entire phase one is expected to commence in 2028.
In response to a follow-up query from See, Jerip clarified that the first phase of KUTS will include the construction of two elevated autonomous rapid transit (ART) stations along Jalan Wan Alwi in Batu Lintang.
These two stations, according to him, will be located in front of Vivacity Megamall and near Kuching Lodge School, and the entire Jalan Wan Alwi stretch will be an elevated alignment or road.
"Meanwhile, there will be one station in front of the Public Works Department divisional office with an elevated design for Batu Lintang area," he added.
The initial phase of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project will establish three Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) lines, encompassing approximately 69.9 kilometers and featuring 31 stations.
These include the 12.3 km Red Line from Kuching Sentral to Pending, the 30 km Green Line connecting Pending and Damai Central, and the 27.6 km Blue Line which will run between Rembus (Kota Samarahan) and Hikmah Exchange in the city center.
