JPJ Unveils New Driving Licence with Enhanced Security

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia has introduced a new design for the Malaysian Driving Licence (LMM), featuring enhanced security elements.
According to JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, the new version of the LMM card is being distributed in stages nationwide starting yesterday. However, for now, the physical card is only available to Malaysian citizens who are travelling abroad.
The updated card is designed to prevent tampering and forgery, and is built to last up to 10 years. The front of the card features the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad Building and an abstract wave motif, while the rear shows the Istana Negara and a floral-themed abstract design.
Printing of the new cards is currently being carried out at selected JPJ branches to allow for a smooth transition from the old card system.
Aedy Fadly further added that for regular renewals, users will only receive a digital licence (e-LMM) via the MyJPJ app. Only those travelling overseas and foreigners are eligible to apply for the physical card.
He went on to explain that not all countries accept the MyJPJ e-LMM. Currently, only Singapore recognises it. Other countries still require a physical driving licence and an International Driving Permit (IDP), which can also be obtained from JPJ.
