Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) plans to sell 247,800 units which are equivalent to 40.6 percent market share, and at the same time increase its production by 37 percent to 265,901 units this year.

Its president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the demand for Perodua vehicles remained strong in 2021 for all models, with Myvi leading the pack having registered 47,525 units, followed by Axia 43,080 units, Bezza 42,698 units, Ativa 26,847 units, Aruz 15,313 units, and Alza with 14,828 units.

In 2021, the company sold 190,291 vehicles in 2021, which is lesser than 2020’s sales by 13.6 percent, with a total of 220,163 total units.

“The increase in production would result in the increase in locally-sourced automotive parts by 41.5% to RM7.5 billion as compared with the RM5.3 billion purchased in 2021,” he stated.

“Our order book for new vehicles is still relatively healthy with the guarantee that production will go uninterrupted, meaning that we could fulfil the outstanding orders in a timely manner.

With a CAPEX of more than RM1.3 billion, Perodua will invest in its new product model, infrastructures, plant improvement, R&D enhancement, and digitalisation flows.
