2022 Subaru X-Mode Experience
TC Subaru Sdn Bhd, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in Malaysia, recently organised a test drive at the Subaru Petaling Jaya Showroom for the media to test out its X-mode system.
The company has arranged a few units of the latest Subaru XV 2.0i-P Eyesight for this experience. Carrying a length of 4,485 and a wheelbase of 2,665 mm, this model is practical for a modern family that loves to travel.

This model has two special features: Dual-Function X-MODE and EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. Since we did not get a chance to drive off-road, Subaru had prepared a few ramps to simulate some off-road exercises to show how the Subaru can tackle slippery road conditions and rough road conditions.
Stepping inside the cabin offers spaciousness as there's plenty of room to roam with other occupants. As for the handling seems quite well-grasped and gives just the right amount of feedback, especially when we hurdled through the ramps.
When it comes to X-Mode, drivers need to understand what happens when the system is active. In application, X-Mode reduces throttle input for increased engine power control, which helps control wheelspin for better traction on slippery and rough terrain.

On top of that, when X-Mode switches on, engine throttle is controlled, transmission is low, all-wheel-drive control is improved, Vehicle Dynamics Control works in tandem with the situation, and finally, Hill Descent Control helps the wheels from slipping.
Vehicle Dynamics Control System is a host of safety systems that consists of Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, TCS with Limited Slip, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist.

The XV 2.0 i-P Eyesight rides on the 17-inch tyres, and the sports utility vehicle offers a 2.0-litre inline 4-Cylinder naturally aspirated engine with a 7-speed manual CVT. It has a fuel tank capacity of 63 litres.
Some newly added features include the 8-way Power-adjustable Driver’s Seat with Memory Function and Auto Vehicle Hold. Also, there are Reverse Auto-tilt Door Mirrors and SI-DRIVE (Subaru Intelligent Drive) as their newest features.
Meanwhile, the SI-Drive is supposed to function on engine response and deliver a specific power or agility when caught in a scenario.
The Test Drive
We were offered two courses for media to test. One of the segments includes media to drive towards an object of a vehicle photo to try out the upgraded Eyesight system, especially now the crossover has added new automatic emergency steering.
Referring to pre-collision braking, this system comes in handy while the steering control gives proper feedback and avoids a collision as we drove not more than 40km.

To prove its advanced system, we hit right before the object, and it was a smooth brake as well. Moving to the second course, we were asked to stop at a roller platform to stimulate a slippery situation.
During this combat, we acknowledge how the X-Mode transfers the power back to its wheels and later helps push the crossover out from the rough situation.
Minutes later, we were off to the second ramp. This was probably one of the highlights during the overall experience as we must pass through a huge bump and expose X-mode versatility to shift its power as the front and back wheels were not touching the ground. As proven, the X-mode has overcome the state effortlessly in style!
On a side note, the experience was pleasant, and I could say the latest Subaru is a mix of sportiness with good suspension. Setting its price from RM139,788, this crossover is upgraded with new safety technology and improved control software.
Subaru has built these courses for customers to come and experience the X-mode itself. Have you tried this crossover? Share with us your experience by commenting down below!
