The Malaysian government has confirmed there won’t be any toll hikes this year as several highway concession companies are going through its restructuring process.
According to prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, the restructuring is done under a comprehensive study which comprises the government's financial burden, Concession Agreement obligations and highway users.
He also stated the toll rates will remain unchanged which enables them to save compensation payments starting January 1, 2022 to end of concession period.
Through these initiatives, the savings could contribute to national infrastructure development programmes. As escalated, savings on toll subsidy payments hit approximately RM4.3 billion.
Namely four highway concession companies involved are KESAS, SPRINT, SMART tunnel and LDP highways.
Other than that, part of the restructuring process full details has its breakdown offer prices at RM2.47 billion (LDP), RM1.98 billion (SPRINT), RM1.38 billion (KESAS) and RM369 million (SMART) as stated by work minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
