Say Hello To The 2022 Mazda CX-60 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV)! - 323 Horsepower, 2.5-Liter I-4 Gas Engine, A 100-kW E-Motor, And A 17.8-kWh Battery
The Mazda CX-60 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) crossover SUV that makes its debut in 2022. It combines exceptional total system performance with what appears to be excellent overall fuel economy (if, of course, you plug it in often). The figures are astounding, as is the company's latest iteration of the Kodo design language, which appears to be more premium than ever.
Let's begin with the PHEV's drivetrain. It has 323 horsepower thanks to a combination of the company's familiar 2.5-liter I-4 gas engine, a 100-kW e-motor, and a 17.8-kWh battery. According to Mazda, this makes it the most powerful road car the firm has ever produced. This Mazda won't be a slouch at a stoplight, though, with a 5.8-second dash to 62 mph.
Mazda also says that this PHEV can go 37 miles on pure electric power before the gas engine kicks in to work in unison with the electric motor as a hybrid vehicle. It also has remarkable fuel consumption and emissions ratings. The CX-60 will also acquire a variety of new powertrains in the future, including a 3.0-liter e-Skyactiv-X I-6 and a 3.3-liter Skyactiv-D diesel, both with 48V mild-hybrid systems Mazda refers to as M Hybrid Boost.
The CX-60 will have i-Activ AWD, but the I-6s will have the option of rear-wheel drive when they arrive. The car can tow up to 5,500 pounds.
In addition, the Mazda CX-60 is a svelte SUV with dimensions that draw a lot of attention to its new rear-drive architecture. It has a sleek appearance thanks to the tall hood and minimal front overhang. The luxury feel of the new grille is enhanced by its brilliant surround and unique divorced/integrated running light arrangement.
Apparently, things are more generic out back, but still attractive. It might be an Infiniti or a BMW without the logos. The quad rhomboid exhausts add a great touch to the back end and are well-integrated. The flanks are adorned with chrome brightwork and fender decorations.
The inside is standard Mazda fare, but the dash is covered with stacked horizontal pieces, some of which encircle and partially conceal the large touchscreen screen. Some specifications will include fascinating textiles and woods, which will give it a bit more personality than the relatively drab aspect shown in these photographs. By the way, the CX-60 is a two-row vehicle, however it's about six inches longer than the Mazda CX-5 for our market in 2022.
The CX-60 will be available in Europe this year, and Mazda will release a new model in 2023 that is larger and has three rows of seats, similar to the CX-80. In the next three years, Mazda expects to introduce five new electric products based on its architecture. The Skyactiv EV Scalable Architecture will be utilised for electric vehicles of all sizes after 2025.
