Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 Hybrid Leaks Online

Mazda’s best-selling crossover SUV nameplate, by which we mean the CX-5, is set to undergo a major overhaul soon, and now we get a first glimpse of which. The leaked image featured above comes courtesy of Instagram page Car Design News via Cochespias.

Sources online indicate that the pictured model resembles closely with camouflaged prototypes spotted testing out in the open recently. Whilst overall proportions and window shape remains, it’s clear every other exterior body panel has been reworked.

A stand-out here are the new headlights, which now curve into the grille, the latter also boasting fresh new insert pattern and thinner chrome accents whilst retaining its signature shape. This comes on top of an all-new and more sculpted front bumper.

While overall proportions and window shape remains, all other exterior panels, as well as the headlights and grille, are either new or reworked.

Elsewhere, the new CX-5 continues to see unpainted plastic wheel arch claddings - typical trait of many crossover SUVs – to give it a rugged stance. Higher-end variants and guises are expected to see this fashioned in body colour instead.

No rear quarter image was leaked, but spyshots indicate the new CX-5 will rock an all-new look at the rear featuring  slimmer new LED taillights. Overall though, it’s not wrong to think this new look comes inspired by the likes of the CX-60.

Critically, this new third-gen model is set to usher in the brand new Skayctiv-Z hybrid powertrain developed in-house by Mazda, though this will reportedly be made available in late 2027.

Critically, this new and arguably long-overdue third-generation Mazda CX-5 is poised to feature a new Skyactiv-Z series-parallel (self-charging) hybrid powertrain too – something the Hiroshima-rooted automaker had confirmed prior.

Said new hybrid powertrain aims to deliver better fuel efficiency and stronger performance, but sources online reportedly add that this hybrid option won’t be offered immediately at launch – it will instead arrive in late 2027.

Given how the leaked model appears (presumably) close to final production state, we won’t have long to wait before an official debut, so expect more details then. In the meantime, are you folks digging the new look? Hit the comments below…
