SUBARU Competes In The Super Taikyu Series 2022 With A BRZ Race Car That Runs On Carbon-Neutral Synthetic Fuel
Subaru Corporation announces that it will enter a Subaru BRZ race car powered by carbon neutral fuel in the ENEOS Super Taikyu Series 2022 Powered by Hankook Round.1 Suzuka 5H Race*1 on March 19 and 20, 2022.
Subaru will use agile development cycles, which are required in the field of motorsports, to train its engineers and propel the "making ever-better motorsports-bred cars" initiative, as well as move toward the realisation of a carbon-neutral society.
Subaru has chosen its BRZ sportscar for the purpose and more than a hundred Subaru engineers have involved in the race car development. The team made only minor changes to the BRZ in order to maintain reliable mass production vehicle engineering.
However, racing regulations necessitate the installation of safety equipment, including the roll cage. The roll-cage structure was specifically designed to accommodate the EyeSight stereo camera, which is used for active safety systems.
Carbon-neutral fuel is a synthetic fuel created by combining sources such as carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen, and components derived from non-edible biomasses to meet Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) for gasoline. It is regarded as one of the measures for achieving carbon neutrality because the amount of CO2 emitted during combustion is regarded as neutral.
When all materials are derived from renewable energy and the CO2 emitted during the manufacturing and transportation processes is zero, the fuel is truly carbon-neutral. However, because CO2 emissions continue to occur during the manufacturing and transportation processes, the fuel used at this time is not strictly carbon-neutral. Subaru aspires to be 100 percent carbon neutral in the future.
The race car's livery includes the motif of blue and green flames, which represent the passion of Subaru engineers and the environmental friendliness of carbon-neutral fuel, respectively.
