Perodua Kelisa Owner Fined For ‘Impersonating’ His Car As A Daihatsu Mira Gino

The road transport department (JPJ) recently issued a saman to a car owner for modifying his Perodua Kelisa to look like a Daihatsu Mira Gino, according to Utusan.
During the arrest, the 30-year-old man was stopped along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah as part of an operation organised by JPJ Perak in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Immigration Department, and National Anti-Drug Agency (June 15, 2022).
During the 2.5-hour operation, 312 vehicles were inspected, and 121 vehicle owners were issued notices under the Road Transport Act 1987 and technical offences under the Motor Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Rules 1959.
Paul Tan previously reported this issue on their portal mentioning that even if it's just swapping badges, changing a vehicle's identity without permission is illegal. This is due to the fact that before a vehicle can be driven on the road in Malaysia, it must be approved during the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) process.
The VTA process secures several criteria that comprise a vehicle's identity, such as the manufacturer, model type, design, and others, all of which cannot be changed at will.
