Perodua: Registration Extension Benefits The Ecosystem And Consumers
Consumers will benefit from the government's decision to extend the sales and service tax (SST) exemption to March 30, 2023 for cars booked before June 30, according to Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua).
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on June 20, those who booked up to June 30 can take advantage of the SST initiative as long as their vehicles were registered in the Road Transport Department system on or before March 31, 2023.
"We sincerely thank the government for this announcement as it gives the industry and the market breathing room to meet consumers demand while at the same time give the players time to overcome various issues that are affecting the industry," said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
The lingering effects of Covid-19, component shortages, and manpower shortages, according to Zainal, are among the major issues currently affecting local automotive suppliers.
He also stated that Perodua is currently completing significant outstanding orders.
Zainal also added that Perodua and its suppliers are currently working to resolve these issues, and this registration extension will provide the automaker with much-needed breathing room to do so.
“In this regard, we appreciate our customers' patience ", Zainal stated.
For the record, Perodua registered 106,179 delivered vehicles between January and May of this year, a 10% increase over the 96,281 units registered during the same period last year.
With 31,689 units registered in the first five months of this year, the Myvi is the most popular, followed by the Perodua Axia with 24,024 units and the Perodua Bezza with 23,336 units.
