Key tech updates announced for Porsche Taycan

Porsche have announced that it will roll out the first software update for all Taycan models. This tech update covers all Taycan variants, including the Cross Turismo, and is part of the upgrades that will be applied for the upcoming 2023MY version too.
The updates include key improvements in powertrain efficiency, battery thermal management, on board tech, as well as a host of other functions. There’s also a 22kW onboard charger that recently become available for retrofitting, but its availability varies across certain markets.

With this update, 'Normal' and 'Range' drive modes in all-wheel-drive variants will now see the front electric motor almost completely disconnected and de-energized in partial load operations, namely during coasting and at a standstill. This is aimed towards reducing frictional drag losses whilst also increasing the electric sportscar’s range.
The Taycan's battery pack, on the other hand, can now be charged rapidly more frequently and across a wider range of charge levels, even when subjected to colder climates. Crucially, both the powertrain and battery thermal updates are applicable to older 2020MY and 2021MY Taycan models whereas 2022MY and newer Taycan models will have these updates installed.

On board, the update primes the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and Porsche Connect suites with new functions plus a colourful new tile design start screen. The navigation heads-up display and voice control abilities have been optimised further, and they now cover onboard operating instructions plus control over the Spotify music streaming app.
Other key bits here include the addition of wireless Andorid Auto, followed by the ability to filter and select charging stations through the navigation system based on charging capacity.
Also improved is the ParkAssist system as the sensors now function at a greater range, Furthermore, upon request, all Taycan models are now also eligible for the keyless opening function for the doors and tailgate. Lastly, the option for over-the-air (OTA) software updates has been expanded to cover the new model year too.

Taycan owners will be pleased to note that this update service is free of charge through Porsche dealerships. Regarding availability, this update’s roll-out period will be market-specific, whereas installation's duration is dependent on the present status of the Taycan's software – the older the car is, the more time will be required for these updates to install.
