Here’s a full view of the electric Maserati GranTurismo Folgore
Famed Italian luxury sportscar marque Maserati is going all-electric with its upcoming replacement for its staple GranTurismo offering, and the renowned trident-totting marque has released a promotional video showing off its stylish new exterior design.
In the video posted above, it’s plain to see that Maserati is playing things rather ‘safely’, with the electric GranTurismo replacement seen sporting a familiar yet sleek design – it’s basic silhouette doesn’t differ too greatly from its internal combustion engine (ICE) predecessor.
Of course, the tell-tales signs of its new electrified nature can also be seen, namely the absence of tailpipes, the presence of a flap just below the rear taillight to access the charging port, as well as the ‘Folgore’ badging present on its flanks.
For those wondering, ‘Folgore’ translates to ‘lighting’ in Italian – an aptly befitting name for what’s poised to become Maserati’s new staple GT coupe offering.
As for the interior, Maserati chose not to reveal it fully, but we’re certain the Trident marque’s traditional luxury treatment here – as seen in past GranTurismo models – will remain.
Though the GranTurismo’s famed V8, and its stellar soundtrack, will be dropped entirely, Maserati did promise this new Folgore replacement will deliver no less than 1,200 hp from a tri-motor setup to allow 0-100 kmh in just 2.7 seconds and a V-max of 320 kmh. And, as demonstrated in the video, all this will come with a rather rapturous new artificial sound too.
By the way, those still yearning for an ICE-flavoured GranTurismo will be glad to know that Maserati will still make one, though it will likely harness the marque’s new generation Nettuno V6 twin-turbo mill instead of a V8. This will be offered alongside the electrified Folgore featured, likely swapping its battery and motors for a fuel tank and driveshaft instead.
Are you digging the style and sound of the new and electrified Maserati GranTurismo Folgore? Or do you reckon the famed trident marque should still come with a free-revving and roaring V8 still? Hit the comments below with your thoughts.
