Lamborghini Huracan successor set to get a twin-turbo V8 hybrid?
Italian sportscar powerhouse Lamborghini is set to field a brand-new heart in the follow-up to its outgoing Huracan model. Replacing the stratospheric V10 mill will be a new turbocharged plug-in hybrid with anywhere between six to 10 cylinders that also sports a hybrid boost feature too.
Citing ‘unnamed insider sources’, US motoring title Motor Trend reported these details recently. It alleges in detail that the still unnamed Huracan successor will employ a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 similar as that found in the Urus SUV, but it will be paired to an axial-flux "pancake" electric motor mounted between the engine and transmission.
Lamborghini is poised to field a similar setup in its upcoming flagship replacement to the outgoing Aventador, albeit with a V12 in this space instead. In this ‘baby’ offering slotted below though, the turbochargers will reportedly kick in at 7,000RPM and higher, meaning the powertrain will function like a naturally aspirated V-8 with electric assist below said mark.
Apart from these alleged details, little else is known about the Huracan’s upcoming successor. What’s certain is that this alleged plan for a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) twin-turbo V8 setup aligns with the VW-owned brand’s electrification plans – Lamborghini aims to offer a hybrid variant of each model by the end of 2024.
With less than two years left to meet said goal’s deadline, it’s really a case of wait and see. Keen on the prospects of an electrified baby Lambo sports coupe a la the Ferrari 296 or SF90? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
